I’m no stranger to cravings! Specially the cravings that push us towards eating greasy, sugary, and disgustingly delicious junk food. Although I no longer experience them as often, I can completely relate to people who do, because I have been there.
Cravings may not seem like something that can affect you too much, but when you are trying to transition to a healthy Plant-Based lifestyle they can be the devil!
It’s important to notice that, If you are trying to go vegan, you might want to get rid of all the food that’s in your house that has any kind of animal products in it or try to finish eating it all as soon as possible. I know this might be hard if you share a house so don’t worry if you can’t do it.
Also! Most people experience cravings for junk foods because they aren’t eating enough calories. So make sure you are indeed eating enough calories for your day.
Because of all of this, I have come up with 2 things you can eat when you feel like you are about to fall off the wagon. This are just quick and simple fixes for when you feel like eating an entire candy store of food stand, but if this is a problem that is more complicated please seek the help of a nutritionist or you family physician.
Lots of Fruits & Ice Cream

You may be thinking ” WHAT!? ICE CREAM?” But you read that right! You can make delicious ice cream in the comfort of your own house without having to worry about it being bad for your health.
To make ice cream just freeze a few ripe bananas, and any other fruit that you may love, like strawberries, and blend them together until you have the consistency of an ice cream. You can also add cacao nibs to it or nuts. Just use your imagination!
The best way to avoid eating things like cake, donuts, cookies, and sugary junk foods is by fuelling your body with the right sugars. Fruit is a great source of sugar that will not only keep you satisfied but also hydrated, do to it’s high water content. Remember that sugar from fruit is NOT the same as processed or refined sugar so don’t be afraid of stuffing your face with it.
Carbs! Simple & Complex Carbs!

In an era of low carb propaganda you may be confused at this recommendation, but bare with me. Carbs are not the enemy!
How do carbs help you avoid cravings? Well, carbs fill you up, and leave you feeling satisfied. When you are satisfied your body will not feel cravings or urge you to go buy junk food anytime soon. You have to take in account that the carbs I’m talking about are low in fat, and low in sodium. A Few good examples of the best sources of carbs you can consume are:
- Potatoes
- Pasta
- Bread (Pita Bread too)
- Tortillas
- Rice
- Beans
- Fruit
- Quinoa
Hopefully this was helpful for you and your journey into living a better, and healthier life!
