2020 is full of possibilities. Plenty of new shows will soon fill our TV screens, and have the potential to provide us with new favorite characters and ships.
We also have all our favorite shows either resuming mid-season or premiering their new season altogether in 2020. All these returning shows have a lot of established relationships that maybe haven’t had the time yet to really set sail – not matter how much we have wanted them to.
So, here is to 2020 and all the ships we hope will finally shine in the new year.
Bellamy and Clarke, The 100
For the longest time, I refused to believe that these two were anything more than just battle comrades and best friends. But over the past couple of seasons, I have started to slowly inch my way toward believing that these two should be more than just that. As we come into 2020, The 100 is set to premiere its seventh and final season. Alas, Bellamy and Clarke are still not together (Bellamy even has a girlfriend), but my version of a happy ending is with these two together. If they finally do get together in the final season, I know myself and countless other Bellarke shippers will rejoice because it has become one hell of a slow burn. In fact, Bellarke has the potential to become one of the best enemies to lovers storylines out there., ever.
Hopper and Joyce, Stranger Things
Come on, we know Hopper isn’t dead. So until that is 100% confirmed, I will happily continue to wish that these two will finally have that date they both planned. They have spent the past three seasons dancing around the idea that they should give their high school chemistry a shot. It is truly hard for someone to watch this show and not think that these two are destined to be together. I can only hope that when Stanger Things returns (hopefully in 2020) that these two finally realize their feelings for one another and stop wasting time, before someone else ends up in the upside down.
Daisy and Deke, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Another fantastic show that is set to end in 2020. For the past six seasons, Daisy has been on an incredible and emotional journey. We have watched her transform from a hacker to an exemplary S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, to an inhuman who can kick anyone’s ass. We have also watched her fall in love and lose that love. After losing Lincoln a few seasons ago, it can be hard to imagine that she would ever find love again. Then Deke Shaw was introduced, and I can honestly say that I am aching for these two to get together. We all know that Deke is head over heels into Daisy, the ball is really in her court. Will Daisy find love again before the series ends? I hope so.
Mina and AJ, The Resident
We all know that Conrad and Nic are one great relationship in The Resident. We have known that since the pilot. But what has been unexpected was the relationship between Mina and AJ Austin that has slowly developed over seasons two and three. AJ first started off as a mentor to Mina – someone who could help her become the fantastic and brilliant surgeon we all know her to be. But as time progressed, he was depending on her as much as she depended on him. AJ started to feel the intensity of their relationship just as much. While, for now, they may be denying their feelings, 2020 looks to be their year.
Carol and Daryl, The Walking Dead
We are begging The Walking Dead producers from our souls – please let this be the year of Caryl. As the only two surviving members of the original group, they deserve to find happiness in each other’s arms. They know each other better than any other character on the show. The first part of this season made strides in that direction, with them spending more time together. We were blessed with them riding together on his motorcycle, and many long talks in the woods (and bickering like an old married couple). And let’s not forget a shirtless Daryl gazing at acorns that reminded him of Carol. We have paid our dues on this slow burn ship, and it’s beyond time for them to confess their love for each other. Our bodies are ready.
Anne and Gilbert, Anne with An E
Anne and Gilbert are just that couple. You know, the one you knew was going to happen from the first time they saw each other. The one you’ve been rooting for since they were kids. The one that has grown together, through good and bad things. The inevitable one. And hey, this is Anne with An E’s final season, so even if we know for a fact we won’t get all we want out of these two, we can still get them together! We can imagine the rest. Or, like, go read the books.
Halstead and Upton, Chicago PD
Upstead is a ship that we didn’t expect to steal our hearts — yet here we are. The best ships are those that develop organically — and that you never see coming. Everyone knows that Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton should be together — except them. While their slow burn has been amazingly wonderful over the last couple of seasons, it feels like the pair are ready to take the next step in their relationship. They can only deny those feelings for so long — and in their line of work, tomorrow isn’t promised. So, for the love of all that is holy, please let Upstead set sail. They’re ready, as are we.
Chloe and Lucifer, Lucifer
If there was any ship that had the best shot of making it in 2020, I’d say it’s Lucifer and Chloe. After all, they did end the most recent season with a declaration of love. Lucifer also went back to hell, but whatever. With this upcoming season being its last, I highly doubt the final season won’t be spent exploring a legitimate relationship between the two. We have gone through four seasons and two networks to have this happen. The least Netflix can do is allow for these lovebirds to finally be together.
Penny and Julia & Josh and Margo, The Magicians
Penny/Kady and Elliot/Quentin are two couples from The Magicians I wish I was writing about. Unfortunately, those ships are both doomed with one half of those pairings being dead. We are still left with a couple of great couples in The Magicians with Margo/Josh and Julia/Penny. They are sort of unexpected pairings but I am so here for them both. While Josh and Margo have already begun exploring a relationship, Penny and Julia are just getting started. I can’t wait to see how it will all play out in the next season premiering in 2020.
Raven and Murphy, The 100
Ok, hear me out. I low key love the potential of this relationship. While I don’t really think this will happen, I wouldn’t be salty if it did. The evolution of Raven and Murphy’s relationship is one that I have loved watching over the years. It has never seemed to be anything more than friendship, but I suspect deep down there is room for some romance. Sure, Murphy has Emori and he did shoot Raven once upon a time. But hey, The 100 is known for their twists and turns and this would be one hell of a curveball.
Kara and Lena, Supergirl
Again, not totally into this ship but also not against it. Never would I have imagined these two actually being more than just a platonic relationship (and who really knows if the writers think the same). But the first half of season five has really made me question everything about this relationship. On one hand, I see why all the hardcore Supercorp shippers believe that they are really star crossed lovers that love each other as more than just friends. On the other hand, it’s not crazy to believe that perhaps the love between the two really is just platonic. Whether you’re rooting for their relationship in a romantic or platonic level, I’m sure we all just want 2020 to be the end of this feud between the two.
