You’re sitting at home on your couch or in your room. You’ve got your favorite snack and drink. You grab the remote and are about to press play, only you haven’t picked what you want to watch.
Don’t worry, I’m going to help fix that.
If you got what I just did, then you’re a fan of You. As we all know, the new season of You will not be here until next year. I’m sure some of you are struggling with what to watch in the meantime.
Here are the 6 shows and movies to watch if you loved You.
The Fall
By far one of the best British dramas I have ever watched. The Fall stars, Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey), and Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, Sex Education). Jamie plays Paul Spector a man living a double life. By day, he’s a regular family man and works as a grief counselor but at night, he becomes something much darker; a killer of women. Gillian plays Stella Gibson the detective trying to stop him. What I like about this show is there is never a dull moment. The first time I watched season one, I stayed up until 3am because I had to know the outcome. There are 3 seasons, which were previously on Netflix, and every single one is just as intense as the last. Writer, Allan Cubitt knows how to write a great show. The acting is phenomenal especially Jamie’s because it shows that he has so much range. I highly recommend watching this show.
The Fall is available on Amazon Prime Video.
The Talented Mr. Ripley
The Talented Mr. Ripley based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith, tells the story of Tom Ripley, a young man who doesn’t really have much going for him in life. He is given the task of going down to Italy to bring millionaire playboy Dickie Greenleaf back home to New York at the request of his father Herbert Greenleaf. When Tom gets down to Italy, he sees how amazing Dickie’s life is and things take a dark turn. The film stars Matt Damon as Tom, and my first British crush Jude Law plays Dickie. Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett, and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman also star.
The Talented Mr. Ripley is available to stream on Netflix.
Dirty John
Man oh man, Dirty John is a doozy and the fact that it’s based on a true story, I just have no words. This show is crazy and the things that John did were just despicable. He told a lot of lies and scammed lots of women and to know that he was even willing to commit murder to get what he wanted makes this story even more chilling. Eric Bana was so good at playing John it was scary. Connie Britton plays Debra Newell his last wife who this story is about.
Dirty John is available to stream on Netflix.
Taking Lives
I don’t want to say too much about this movie for people who haven’t seen it yet but, Taking Lives is about FBI profiler Illeana (Angelina Jolie), who is called in to help catch a serial killer that takes on the lives of his victims. This film is very intense and you may or may not see the twist coming.
Taking Lives is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
Orphan Black
Orphan Black is not entirely like You but, it does involve assuming the identity of another person. There is so much more to this show than meets the eye and it is extremely engrossing. Tatiana Maslany the main actress in the series is badass, and her ability to play so many different characters is beyond words.
Orphan Black is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
Alone With Her
Let me start off by saying this movie is dark as fuck, and I am still not over it. While I was compiling this list, my sister was the one who actually reminded me about it. In Alone With Her, Colin Hanks plays a stalker named Doug. He sets up hidden cameras to spy on Amy played by Ana Claudia Talancon. He manipulates her and infiltrates her whole life. Seriously, I have not gotten over the ending, I was in shock.
Alone With Her is available to stream for free on Tubi.
There you have it, these are just a few TV shows and films I recommend checking out if you’re a fan of ‘You.’
