Javicia Leslie, the new Batwoman, is more than the woman taking on the role Ruby Rose left behind. She’s her own woman with her own talents and a career to back it! And in an effort to get to know her better we’ve put together a list of 5 things you should know about our Ryan Wilder!
1. She Ain’t Got Time for Racist Shit
Taking on the role of Batwoman has meant that Javicia has had to deal with a bucket load of bigoted assholes who can’t fathom a Black woman taking on the role of the caped crusader. But her will, her absolute fortitude, has made it so their words don’t bring her down. If anything, they make her stronger and more formidable. And that strength is something to admire!
2. She’s Trained for Batwoman
This video alone proves that Javicia is ready to be Batwoman. Sure, she might be a little shaky and the steps a little off. But who cares? She looks like a badass and she’ll only get better as time goes by. And personally, we can’t wait!
3. She’s Got the Cutest Pup
Judah is Javicia’s baby. She adopted him in 2018 from a shelter in San Diego, CA. He is a rescue pup and pitbull; the latter giving him a bad rep, but he’s part of her family and she couldn’t think of her life without him. Judah made her feel safe when she moved to NYC and the love has only grown from there!
4. She’s Queer AF
Javicia is proud of who she is and has no time to hide how strongly she feels about the LGBTQ community. From celebrating Pride in NYC to taking on the role of queer hero Batwoman, this woman is a shining star that sets an example for women of color and bisexual people alike.
5. She’s the Kind to Have the Hard Conversations
Two seconds into being Batwoman she’s already joining forces with the other women of The CW to sit down and have the kind of hard conversations we need in 2020. That already shows how much of a powerhouse she is and will be when we catch site of her as Batwoman. This is only the start of what she plans to do at The CW. And like you, we are more than ready for it!
