Just because Regé-Jean Page has exited Bridgerton, that doesn’t mean the show is going to break up Simon and Daphne off-screen, the actress who plays Daphne, Phoebe Dynevor, has assured fans. In a conversation with The Wrap, the actress, who is set to return for season 2 of the Netflix drama, which will, in turn, focus on Anthony’s love story, shared that even though we won’t be seeing Simon, that doesn’t mean the couple we invested in for the entirety of season one is doomed.
“I think the fans who have read the books and know the books are aware that every season will focus on a different sibling’s journey,” Phoebe shared. “And it might be a little bit more of a — not shock, but like a surprise for the fans that love Daphne and Simon’s story so much.”
The anthology type style is very common in romance novels, but seeing as Bridgerton broke barriers, it’s very likely a lot of people unfamiliar to the romance genre tuned in, and were seemingly confused as how the series could go on without its leading man. The answer is simple, Simon was never meant to be the leading man in season 2. Or ever again. Every season will focus on a different sibling.

“I think that’s honestly the joy of the show in the long-term, getting to see these different love stories play out. No two seasons will be the same and they’ll have a different excitement.”
We here at Fangirlish are especially excited about season 2, because book 2 of the Bridgerton series, The Viscount Who Loved Me is absolutely one of our favorites. We’ve talked extensively about what we want to see in season 2, and our love for it’s heroine, Katte Sheffield, now Kate Sharma.
But we know many fans are still worried that a show like this one will have no option but to break up Simon and Daphne off-screen, so Daphne can show up and Simon can stay away. So we’re glad that Phoebe put that to rest, and now, hopefully, fans can focus on the new love story coming their way. And hey, there does seem to be a plan re: Simon.

“I think he’ll definitely be referred to a lot. I think we’ll see the baby,” Phoebe said. “And we’ll just focus more on [Daphne’s] relationship with the Bridgerton Family.”
We would never say no to maybe, some Simon in the future – this show is surely going to stick around enough that maybe, maybe Regé can reconsider for season 3, or like, 5. But even if he doesn’t, we will always have the Simon and Daphne we saw in season 1, and we can rest assured that the show won’t pull the rug under us and break them up off-screen.
