If you’re like us, you’ve been on the edge of your seat wondering what the Gossip Girl reboot would bring us. Reboots are never that great and when you mess with a classic, it’s hard to have any faith. Hell, let’s be honest, in Hollywood’s quest to make money, they’ve forgotten that we still like a good television show and if you’re going to mess with the classics, it better not be like the 90210 reboot; better off forgotten.
But here we are, another reboot and finally, one that Hollywood got right. And one that shocked us from beginning to end. But in the same breath, we’ve got new crushes, new fashion goals, and a big want to up our Instagram game.
Let’s get the niceties out of the way – everyone in the main cast in this reboot is going to be a star. We’re going to be saying their names for years to come, watching what they do, and for some of us – they’ll be the source of fantasies we don’t want to admit we have. But that’s the beauty of great casting, spotting the diamond in the rough. And this cast – they are all diamonds.
Some of their characters… a little bit rough. But hey, that’s the beauty of New York being the setting – the people here are diverse and blooming. You just have to crack their shell and watch them grow. Grasp on to the future with both hands and give into what they want. Don’t they say if you can make it in this city, you can make it anywhere?
We guess that means even with Mommy and Daddy’s AMEX behind you. Hell, cash is cash, and plans are plans. It doesn’t matter how old or young you are – life is meant to be lived and fantasies are meant to be fulfilled. It’s all a power struggle and this bitch has settled in to watch what happens.
Who is pulling the strings? Well, you’ll see. And trust us – you’ll love the twists. Twists are what we have grown to expect in life, but these, they’re like Gossip Girl, you’ll never see it coming.
This iteration of Gossip Girl is fancier, richer, more diverse, better scripted and it’s cinematography alone screams loudly that HBO knew what they were doing and were ready to fork out the cash for whatever they needed. We guess, without the Game of Thrones production budget other things could be stepped up and this was definitely stepped up.
There are it girls and boys, but comparing them to the Nate, Chuck, Blair and Serena, well – that doesn’t do them justice. Each one is a new part of New York’s elite. The show pays homage to the past, while reminding you that these kids are their own people. A little bitchy, a little drugged, a little sex crazed, and like so many in this world, in need of some reality.
But are we ones to really judge what that reality is? After all none of us have billions of dollars and buildings in Dumbo that are the most beautiful thing that we’ve ever seen. The world has changed since the first Gossip Girl, and trust us, this show captures that with a lot of flair and jabs that only Gossip Girl can give.
“You thought I was a person,” Gossip Girl writes in a caption, “but I never said I was. I’m a revolution.”
Get ready for the revolution everyone, Gossip Girl launches this Thursday, July 8th on HBO Max. You’re gonna love it.
xoxo.
