Season two of ABC drama Big Sky is getting closer to returning for the Fall TV slate and the series is adding more and more cast members. The latest one to join the David E. Kelley series based on the books by C.J. Box, is Logan Marshall-Green. According to Deadline, Logan will be a series regular and is also a key character who will star alongside leads Kylie Bunbury and Katheryn Winnick.
Logan Marshall-Green took to his Instagram in a cheeky post to share the news as well.
In Season two of Big Sky when private detectives Cassie Dewell (Bunbury) and Jenny Hoyt (Winnick) reunite to investigate a car wreck outside of Helena, Montana, they soon discover that the case might not be as straightforward as it seems. As they unravel the mystery of the accident, their worlds will collide with a band of unsuspecting teens, a flirtatious face from Jenny’s past and a vicious outsider hellbent on finding answers.
The flirtatious face from Jenny’s past is Travis (Marshall-Green) an old friend of hers and her late husband Cody (Ryan Phillippe). Travis has been working undercover on a local drug ring for long enough that the line between Travis and his undercover alias Stone has begun to blur. Travis will cross paths with Jenny, whose new case overlaps with his undercover work. While Travis and Jenny will try to keep their relationship professional, they have a shared history as well as unresolved feelings that will make their partnership both difficult and dangerous.
We’re going to be honest, while we are interested to see where this storyline takes us in season two of Big Sky, it feels a little like we keep doing this rinse and repeat storyline. We just saw Jenny and a guy from her past in the previous season when she and Cassie were solving the mystery on the Kleinsasser ranch. It also feels a little like Cassie’s sort of been pushed to the back burner and has become more of Jenny’s sidekick than an actual partner. That sucks because she is the major name in the Dewell and Hoyt detective agency which Jenny has joined since Cody was murdered in the Big Sky pilot. We want more of a meaty storyline for Cassie and not this generic one we seem to be getting.
Logan Marshall-Green joins previously cast Jamie-Lynn Sigler, and Janina Gavankar, additional cast members include Madelyn Kientz, Troy Johnson, Lola Reid, Jeremy Ray Taylor, TV Carpio, and Arturo Del Puerto.
Series regulars Brian Geraghty and Dedee Pfeiffer are set to return with Omar Metwally and Anja Savcic, who have been promoted from recurring to regulars for Season 2. Jesse James Keitel, who was a series regular in season 1 will have a recurring role in Season 2.
Season two of Big Sky moved its production location from Canada to New Mexico and it seems the series has also changed its airdate from Tuesday to Thursday nights. We hope this was a good move because often when a show moves airdates, it doesn’t always do too well. Hopefully that doesn’t happen with Big Sky.
What are your thoughts on this casting announcement? Are you excited to see the other new cast members? Will you be watching season two of Big Sky when it returns next month?
Season two of Big Sky premieres September 30th on ABC.
