Christmas came early because the first official Hawkeye trailer is here! Marvel Studios gifted us the trailer early this morning, after co-stars, Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld teased its arrival on their socials. This meant that Marvel fans stayed up too late or woke up too early to ensure they didn’t miss a second of this Christmas adventure.
That’s right! The MCU is taking on its first Christmas project since Iron Man 3. Whether people like to admit it or not, Iron Man 3 is a Christmas movie, and it’s wonderful. This time around, we’ll follow Clint Barton and Kate Bishop on an NYC adventure about what it means to be Hawkeye.
Much like Kamala Khan is a massive Captain Marvel fan, this trailer doesn’t waste any time in letting us know that Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop is very familiar with Clint Barton’s work. In fact, Clint finds Kate when she’s wearing his Ronin suit — or at least a nearly exact replica. Kate’s face absolutely lights up when she sees the man behind the bow and arrow.
Most excitingly, it looks like Hawkeye will be a way for Marvel Studios to hold Clint accountable for his crimes. It would be irresponsible to let this character exist in the MCU without directly addressing the amount of blood on his hands. As for addressing the way the character changed from the comics, it looks like Clint has a hearing aid now.
Before we even get there, though, the Hawkeye trailer does a great job of grounding this story. It leads the general audience in with a reminder of who Clint Barton is — a family man. He’s a father first and foremost, and a lot of his time with his family was taken from him because of The Blip.
This is a nice refresher for those who may have forgotten, and a nice entry point for those who may have not seen anything from the MCU until now. While it is frustrating that there isn’t more Kate Bishop in this trailer, it does a great job of reminding us what’s at stake here: family.
Presumably, this will expand well beyond Clint’s biological family and see Kate and Clint become more than a dynamic duo and more of a found family of sorts like the Avengers tried to be. This isn’t impractical to presume considering their comic book history. After all, the holidays are all about celebrating with the ones you love.
There is plenty to catch in this trailer. We are obsessed with the idea of Rogers: The Musical that “captures the heart of a hero.” It gets even better when it appears as though Broadway and musical theater star Adam Pascal may play a certain role in the production. It’s even funnier to think about Clint, someone who knew Steve, sitting down and watching that.
Not to mention, we are already Lucky the Pizza Dog’s biggest fans. Can you blame us? He could do no wrong. Lucky isn’t the only new cast member to look forward to either. You can catch glimpses of its all-star cast, like Vera Farmiga and newcomer Alaqua Cox.
There are also familiar faces returning to the mix like Florence Pugh‘s Yelena Belova. Hawkeye is keeping her role in the series under wraps for now. There is plenty to infer about what she’ll get up to from the Black Widow post-credits scene alone.
The trailer tells us the best gifts come with a bow. From what we can tell, Hailee Steinfeld‘s Kate Bishop is going. tobe the gift that keeps on giving. Her energy and talent radiate from this very short trailer. We can’t wait to see what she does with the character when the series premieres on Disney+ in November.
Here’s how Marvel Studios describes the series:
Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.
