It’s good to see you again, Lucifans! Lucifer 6×04 “Pin The Tail on the Baddie” starts out strong and is an episode full of surprises, one where the emotional conflict of the characters unfolds in a brilliant way — as only this show can do. Time for review! Ready?
Here we go!
Lucifer 6×04 “Pin The Tail on the Baddie” begins right where the previous episode ended: with an angel who claims to be Lucifer’s daughter … and that he abandoned her. Despite the thousands of questions we have in our heads, our first reaction is to deny it, just like Lucifer. We don’t believe that he would do that consciously, he loves with everything he has, he loves with his life, he would die rather than abandon his daughter, especially because he, as he confesses to this mysterious angel, knows how that feels.
His father abandoned him to his fate for millennia, making him feel that he did not deserve love, that he did not deserve anything good, that he was a monster. That made him hate his father with the same passion with which she now hates him. Lucifer would never do that to his own child. Internally, he vowed that he would never be like his father, he cannot accept that he did not fulfill the oath he made to himself.
But he looks into her eyes … and he knows it’s true. Lucifer knows that she is telling the truth, no matter how much he denies it. His head and his heart are fighting here. His heart screams at him that she is his daughter but his reason refuses to accept it and the more he denies it, the more angry she gets. It is the drop that fills the glass.

It’s like confirming that her father never loved her, she was never anything to him. It’s… cruel of him to do that to her and her heart, the one that she thought was dead and so broken that it couldn’t break anymore, breaks again, into a thousand pieces.
Then there’s Dan … and oh, Dan, we want to hug you tight. He is now on Earth and that brings all kinds of unexpected problems in Lucifer 6×04 “Pin The Tail on the Baddie.” Despite saving Lucifer and somehow atoning for his attempt to kill him, he cannot ascend to heaven. The origin of his guilt is not that. Lucifer looks really sad and heartbroken at not being able to do more for Dan and having to tell him that he cannot give him what he deserves so much but we still think that he can help more here, by helping Dan to realize the origin of his guilt .
However, Dan’s claims come from another side of the problem: Lucifer knew that he could bring him to earth and he did not. That makes him feel betrayed, hurt, disappointed… Dan really thought they were friends, why did Lucifer do this to him? Why did he leave him in hell, instead of bringing him back to earth so that he could be with everyone he loves?
Frankly, we understand Dan perfectly. We feel this disappointment too, something inside us that screams “why didn’t you do it?” So we can fully understand Dan and his reaction, including those last hurtful words he directs to Lucifer. Dan trusted him, his friendship, his power, his knowledge… and he feels cheated.
Of course, Lucifer had a good reason not to bring Dan back to Earth, but he keeps too many secrets. If he had told Dan about this everything might have worked out. Sometimes, by not wanting to do more harm to those we love, we end up keeping secrets that would ultimately help them.
However, playing the devil’s advocate here (pun intended), if Lucifer had told Dan about this possibility, he would have wanted to do it, because it would have been instinctive for him, too great a temptation to pass up … so it’s understandable Lucifer didn’t tell him.
What is the right thing to do here? We don’t think there is a correct or completely good decision. Lucifer opted for what he thought was better or less bad, the thing that he thought was going to do less harm to Dan. Isn’t that human?
Dan can see in his own flesh why Lucifer didn’t say anything to him. Although in some cases meeting again with those he loves was healing, as in the case of Amenadiel – I died when they clarified everything about that last bitter encounter, those are my boys! – and Maze who, even being Maze, I think needed to tell him, just as he needed to tell her, well … how much they missed each other – for the most part it was frustrating, painful and cruel.

When Dan finally plucks the courage to visit Trixie and Chloe, what he finds is devastating. Trixie is crying inconsolably in Chloe’s arms and he can’t comfort her, she doesn’t even see him or know that he’s there. It is so cruel to have them so close but so far … now he understands why Lucifer did not want to bring him before, he knew that this would be a real torture that would destroy him. Lucifer was protecting him.
Now Dan is ready to go back… only he can’t. Not anymore. He is trapped in the world of the living without being alive, with all that that means. Damn rules of the universe, Dan doesn’t deserve this! He deserves to be in heaven, with Charlotte, taking care of the ones he loves from up there. Dan deserves to be happy.
We have to admit that we were moved by the conversation between Lucifer and Dan. It is a father to father talk. After Lucifer accepted what his heart always knew, he believes that he screwed up the only opportunity he had to talk to his daughter, to clarify things, to meet her. He would not have abandoned her if he had known of her existence, it is impossible because he knows how he feels to have a father that rejects his own son and he never would.
It is the first time that Lucifer is accepting aloud that he has a daughter. And I’m really proud of him. But did he really screw up the only chance he had to tell her his version of the story and have a relationship with her? Like Dan, we don’t believe that. Being a parent is something you learn by walking, there is no instruction manual, it is trial and error and there is always a second chance… if you go looking for it.
So that’s what Lucifer does but she’s in the most unexpected place: Chloe’s house. She went there because Chloe is… her mother! HER. MOTHER. Wait a moment…HER. MOTHER. What the hell?! This changes things radically. How can Chloe be her mother if she is older than Trixie? And if it is… does this mean that Lucifer did what he swore never to do and consciously abandoned his daughter?
Our reason refuses to accept something like that, not from Lucifer … but our heart knows that this explanation is the only possible one. And the only question that remains to be answered is… why?

In another vein and before this bomb changed everything, I love when Chloe wants to know more and more about what will happen to her when she accompanies Lucifer to heaven. It is a drastic change in her life that in Lucifer 6×04 “Pin The Tail on the Baddie” seems closer than ever and there are many variables to consider, especially Trixie. Because no one is remembering here that she is a girl who does not know the truth yet … and we would like them address this issue in Lucifer, because it seems that no one thinks about it.
But if I love when Chloe asks questions and investigates why she’s nervous, I love seeing Lucifer by her side even more, just holding her hand tightly and telling her that she shouldn’t fear anything because they will be together. Lucifer is a darling and this scene would be even more special if he did not hide everything that is happening from her, because he does not tell her anything about Dan or about that angel who wants to kill him and that turns out is her daughter. Lucifer is there for Chloe but he must understand that they’re partners and that she is there for him too… he just has to let her.
And Lucifer has a hard time doing it. That is why Chloe is terrified that he has run away from her again. She thinks he’s withdrawing from himself, not communicating with her, not trusting her. After all that they have lived through, Chloe fears that Lucifer will retrace his steps and once again be the man she knew, the man who had a thousand and one secrets and who never told her the whole truth and hid behind a mask of sarcasm, irony and humor. The man with the high barriers, the breastplate in his heart… the man who pushed her away.

That is why she decides to find out where Lucifer is and confront him. About this we have to say that the application to know the location is tool 101 of the stalker’s kit. Chloe, that’s not good!
Closing this section and returning to what happens in Lucifer 6×04 “Pin The Tail on the Baddie,” when they meet, Lucifer has no choice but to tell her about that girl who claims to be his daughter. And this is precisely the problem: that he tells her because he has no choice. And that intensifies Chloe’s fear, especially when she sees the connection so strong that Ester seems to feel to him. She is jealous of that, of the idea that there is something that unites them and that Lucifer is hiding it from her, because she feels that he still keeps secrets from her … although they are not what she believes.
Of course, Chloe did not expect that the girl who appeared in the apartment was an angel and that Dan was on Earth. That destabilizes her, angers her, … disappoints her. A moment ago Lucifer took her hand, looked into her eyes and promised that there would be no more secrets between them. The two of them made a promise, a vow and he broke it, he still kept things from her.
Chloe is hurt, angry and worse, disappointed. Like us, she thought they had overcome this, tiptoeing with each other, keeping secrets, hiding important things … she gave up her life to accompany him, gave up everything, closed her eyes and jumped off a cliff, certain that he would be there to catch her, she closed her eyes and took a leap of faith and he… failed her.
And yes, what Lucifer has done is bad and we would like to kill him right now. He has kept things from her … but for different reasons than she thinks. Lucifer trusts Chloe with his life, with everything he has, but fear has made him try to fix this on his own, fear of disappointing her, the fear of losing her. It is not an excuse or justification, but that is what he felt.
By the way, nice touch of nostalgia remembering the past when Lucifer left and appeared married to Candy Candy, whom we came to love. They are memories that strike us right in the heart for different reasons … and what about the Deckerstar fight scene, no one better than them to kick ass.
In the midst of all this, there is a detail in Lucifer 6×04 “Pin The Tail on the Baddie” that does not go unnoticed: no one thinks that Lucifer can be a good father. They all think that he would just leave and never return. But that’s not what Chloe thinks. She has immeasurable faith in him and she knows that she would be the best father in the world because she knows him, she sees him.

She sees his heart, damaged, even broken, but with so much love to give. She sees him in the times he sacrificed himself for her, for everything he’s done for Maze, Amenadiel, Linda, Ella, she sees him for that blind rage with that man taking advantage of defenseless girls, because she understands that he’s acting like a father would, a father terrified for his daughter, sees him every time she looks into his eyes and loses herself in them.
Chloe has enormous faith in him, she has it even when he doesn’t have faith in himself. He is beginning to accept that everything that angel said was true. Lucifer is beginning to accept that he did abandon his daughter and feels guilty for doing so, for failing her like that, for not being there for her, for making her hate him, just as he hated his father. But Lucifer didn’t know, how could he be there?
Furthermore, this truth revives old fears in Lucifer. What if Chloe can’t be with someone who abandoned his daughter? What if he doesn’t accept her as part of her family? Lucifer sees once again how the possibility of losing Chloe, his greatest nightmare, hangs over his head and he cannot bear it.
That’s why, when Chloe dispels all his fears by saying that whatever happens she will be by his side and they will solve everything together, he looks at her in surprise, almost without being able to believe it, like a helpless puppy that has just found a home and the love in his eyes is so great, so great, it makes me cry.
And I cry even more when Lucifer turns the romantic little devil that he is and tells Chloe that he loves her like she never loved anyone. I melt like ice cream in a blazing sun. It’s so hot when Lucifer says these things… I’d eat him whole right there. This is how Lucifer returns to ingratiate himself with us.
And so later, Lucifer is able to accept himself that when he looked into the eyes of that angel, he also knew instinctively that she was his daughter, he just felt it, even though he was not yet ready to face the true.
As a last note, it is strange that neither Amenadiel nor Lucifer have noticed this deviation, the existence of an angel who came from hell. Why? Does it have something to do with Lucifer not yet being on the throne? Perhaps, without anyone occupying the throne of God, there is no order on earth, or in hell or in heaven, perhaps there is only chaos.
