This is gonna be a gas! Kathryn Hahn is in talks to return for Agatha Harkness’s very own Disney+ series. This news is simply the best, and it’s all the better because it’s Spooky Season. According to Variety, the show is in development with WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer in talks to be the writer and executive producer if the series moves forward. That’s a dream team if you ask me!
This news isn’t unexpected because Hahn’s Agnes turned Agatha Harkness is a fan-favorite character from the hit Disney+ series. Hahn won Best Villain at the MTV Movie and TV Awards. In addition, she was nominated for Oustanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series at the 2021 Emmys. Plus, the witch’s anthem “Agatha All Along” took home a Creative Arts Emmys win for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.
Agatha Harkness is one of the best villains to exist within the MCU. She is equal amounts fun and wicked, played brilliantly by Hahn. You’ll inevitably get drawn into her allure, and that’s the point. Agatha is great at pulling strings and doing spells. She was unmatched until Wanda Maximoff came along and proved herself to be the strongest Avenger (again) as the Scarlet Witch.
Agatha forced Wanda’s hand, and it did not end well for the witch who survived the Salem Witch Trials. Wanda bound Agatha to revert to her disguise from earlier in the season — Agnes — in Westview. The series ends with the assertion that Agnes is stuck in Westview. But everything is rarely as it seems, especially when skilled witches are involved. So what is this potential series about?
The plot of the series is still unknown in pure Marvel Studios fashion. The possibilities are limitless with magic involved. For all we know, this series could be a prequel of what Agatha got up to after the Salem Witch Trials and before Westview. WandaVision barely scratched the surface of this character’s past, present, and future.
It isn’t easy to imagine Schaeffer setting the spinoff in Westview, risking the events of WandaVision to repeat themselves. Also, Westview isn’t Agatha’s style. It was only a tool to get her closer to Wanda Maximoff. Agatha is all about the bigger and better things of life, and Westview’s small-town way of life doesn’t feel like the perfect fit for her.
The MCU loves giving us interconnected stories as much as we love watching them. There is a chance that this spinoff series, a prequel or otherwise, could lend itself to the MCU’s larger narrative. Agatha has a rich history in Marvel comics that connects her with a bunch of key players. As of now (considering who already exists or will soon exist in the MCU), it’s a safe bet that Agatha and Wanda will come face to face again.
According to Deadline, Hahn “is set to reprise [her role] across the MCU — on streaming and in movies — under a larger deal she has made with the studio, sources said.” That’s huge news that makes a potential cameo in Doctor Stange in the Multiverse of Madness more possible than ever before. Popular theories suggest Wanda could be the villain of the MCU’s first horror movie, so maybe there is an Agatha/Scarlet Witch team-up in our future. Sign us up!
