With every day that passes, we are gifted with even more details about Amazon Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Just last week we were given character posters with the twist being that you could only see their hands, some clothes, and an object in their grasp. That lead to a load of speculation on who is playing who and what’s to come for this epic show.
In an exclusive over at Vanity Fair, we finally have some answers as to what’s coming for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, particularly who is playing key roles like Galadriel and Elrond. Morfydd Clark, known for Crawl and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, will play Galadriel. Robert Aramayo, known for The Empty Man and The King’s Man, will play Elrond.
Both of these actors are joined by Ismael Cruz Córdova, known for Mary Queen of Scots and Miss Bala. He will be the first Latino elf in the Tolkien universe and plays Arondir. He’s joined by Sophia Nomvete, the dwarven princess Disa. She is the first female dwarf. And they are both beacons of hope for those who have never seen themselves in Tolkien’s work of art. Also, imagine the cosplay that is to come of these two?
Another exciting bit about this news is that it sets up fans to be even more excited for Superbowl Sunday. Famously known for being the best spot to drop trailers and new commercials, Amazon Prime Video is set to release its first teaser trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Some speculate we might just see the hands come to life but it’s Superbowl Sunday, people. Think bigger.
Here at Fangirlish, we’re hoping to see the beginnings of the Second Age come to life via actual character footage. And we’re particularly interested in Sauron. Dubbed as one of the “greatest villains that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen,” he threatened to cover the world in darkness and take away the peace that many in The Rings of Power were used to, from the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon to the farthest reaches of this world.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set to be released Friday, September 2 on Amazon’s Prime Video, with new episodes available weekly.
