This week’s episode of ‘Big Sky’ 2×13 “The Shipping News” seemingly wrapped up one storyline while leaving one still open. Also, there is a third storyline that may be closed but, based on what the ‘Big Sky’ writers have done in the past, it’s hard to tell.
Let’s discuss.
In ‘Big Sky’ 2×13 “The Shipping News” we’re dealing with the aftermath of Ronald’s take down by Cassie and Lindor. Ronald is now dead and both Lindor and Wolf were carted off to receive medical attention for their injuries. Only Wolf never made it for his. Some random dude is riding in the back of what I guess may or may not have been a fake ambulance vehicle, you never know with this show. Anyway, rando guy starts talking to Wolf asking him where Scarlet is, which makes zero sense because the way she got stabbed in the back of the neck in ‘Big Sky’ 2×12 “A Good Boy” she should have been dead.
Back to Wolf and random guy. Obviously, Wolf doesn’t know what the hell is going on well, neither did we. Random guy keeps talking to Wolf about how he’s there to clean up his mess and blah, blah, blah. He then precedes to go all Game of Thrones and says, “John Milton sends his regards” before smothering Wolf to death. Who the hell is John Milton you might be thinking? We don’t know but, trust me, we will whether we want to or not.
Next, we jump to the kiddie kiddos. Max and her mom have been discharged from the hospital after their kidnapping ordeal with Bob. Harper, Bridger, and Madison were all there to greet her. They had their friend’s moment where they ultimately parted ways. Bridger and Madison are going to boarding school, which is crazy to me because last we checked, their family was in danger from the Bhullars if they even thought about trying to tell the police everything they knew. I guess their all doing okay now… Max and Harper’s relationship feels unsure to me.
To be honest, the ‘Big Sky’ writers didn’t really explore their relationship as much as they could have or even give it the time it needed. And in the last several episodes, we saw Harper less and less including after Max was taken. I don’t know about you but if my significant other was missing, I would have been losing my shit.
Okay, time for the Jenny/Travis/Bhullar show. After Jenny rescued Max and Rachel there was still the matter of catching Bob. When Jenny gets to Bob’s place where Poppernak has been searching for the area, they head down to where Rachel and Max were being held. Two deputies are also down there, and they start showing Jenny and Poppernak Bobs weird doll friends he’s made. Jenny doesn’t like the vibe she’s getting down there and as the guys continue to play around with Bob’s weird toys, she warns them not to touch anything else but, it’s too late because Bob has booby trapped the place with a bomb which goes off killing the two deputies and injuring Poppernak. Jenny comes out unscathed, because of course.
After the explosion Jenny is really on a mission to get Bob and bring down the Bhullars. She reaches out to Travis again for any information he can give her on Bob and what else he knows about the Bhullars. Travis as usual gives Jenny the bare minimum because he’s still on his own secret mission to take down Veer Bhullar once and for all. Jenny’s trust in Travis is wearing thin and with good reason. This whole Bhullar cartel storyline has gotten so crazy and it’s a lot to keep up with because there are so many people involved.
Dietrich, who Travis was previously working for until his cover was blown, finds out that he plans on sitting down with Veer Bhullar to get back into his good graces after losing the shipment he was supposed to be responsible for. Travis thinks it’s a trap, but Dietrich doesn’t so he meets with Veer. I thought it was going to be a trap too, but it wasn’t. Veer didn’t let Dietrich leave without a few bruises though. He had Jag beat him because he wanted him to “get his hands dirty.” Jag was surprisingly apprehensive about beating a man up, but he did it anyway because ya gotta make daddy happy (Insert eye-roll emoji). He then gave Dietrich his payment and sent him on his way.
Meanwhile, Ren is working on her new business venture with Tonya. Their first shipment of drugs is going out and since it’s a test run to see how well their new driver can be trusted, Tonya decides to follow the truck. Unfortunately, because this is ‘Big Sky’ shit goes down and Bob’s pyscho ass shows up and ambushes the driver killing him and taking the truck with the shipment. After that happens Jenny and Travis meet up again to discuss what their next move will be because they know Bob was involved.
They head over to the Boot Heel to see Dietrich to see if he’s heard from Bob. Dietrich says he hasn’t and then Jenny and Travis tell him to let them know as soon as he does. Immediately after they leave, Bob waltzes in and makes a deal with Dietrich to partner up again and sell the drugs he just stole. Dietrich is all for it or se we thought. You see, Dietrich is smart, and he didn’t forget about Bob trying to pull rank on him and do his own thing. He sets Bob up by turning him in to the Bhullars and it was an unexpected twist but a good one because Bob had it coming.
What I didn’t expect or even consider was that Bob himself had some leverage. When he gets taken by the Bhullars, Ren is prepared to have Donno do his thing and kill him until Bob tells her she’s got a mole in her organization. Yup, Bob ratted Travis out. Well, shit. Ren is clearly pissed and seeing red especially because Travis is a cop. She calls him in, and he walks right into the lion’s den because she, Donno, Tonya, and Bob are all sitting there waiting for him.
It feels like things are not going to end well for Travis. He attempts to convince Ren he’s not a cop and that Bob is a liar and a thief. She’s not buying it until Travis does something I saw coming but was still shocked by; he kills Bob. Yup, Travis killed Bob. Now I know Bob was a bad guy but even I know an undercover cop isn’t supposed to just go around killing people who blow your cover. Obviously, Travis was out of options at that point, but it still wasn’t a good idea.
The surprises about Travis don’t stop there. Jenny receives a visit from a woman by the name of Lila Dodge who happens to be Travis’s handler from State. She informs Jenny that she hasn’t heard from Travis since he’s been undercover and that’s not good. Jenny is taken aback to find that out, but she’s even more caught off guard when she learns the real reason Travis is going after Veer Bhullar. Remember we told you that Veer Bhullar killed Travis’s partner? Well, that’s partially true. Turns out Travis’s partner was a woman named Kate Garza. She was Veers mistress and then became Travis’s informant and shortly after, his girlfriend.
Travis is trying to find out what happened to Kate because he believes Veer discovered she was his informant and had her killed. That means there’s a possibility she might still be alive because if Travis is trying to find her, Veer may not have killed her. Jenny finding out about this is no doubt going to affect their relationship. I mean, clearly Travis is not over Kate if he’s on a dangerous undercover mission like this one and has in a way gone rogue. I don’t know what Jenny will do with that information, but she and Travis definitely have some things to discuss.
Other Thoughts
- I say again, who the hell is John Milton?
- I cannot take another storyline that mentions Scarlet or Ronald, okay? Can we please move on?
- We spent so much time with the kids on this show that it felt kind of lazy how quickly they wrapped up their storyline.
- Poppernak is a good partner. I’m glad they didn’t kill him off.
- Still waiting to find out what Alicia is up to.
- Hey Veer, if you want someone put down on the ground… DO IT YOURSELF!
- Seriously this whole dysfunctional family storyline is played out.
- Tonya is really out here trying to be some badass queen pen, but she can’t even keep someone from stealing her first shipment. Girl sit down.
- Donno’s advice to Tonya about how he would have handled the hijacker was pretty simple. I mean, he said he would have killed the guy, which is a rough thing to do but, she asked, and he told her the truth.
- What is this nonsense about the Bhullars pulling out of Canada? Seriously, why is this a thing?
- Tubbs asking Travis why he hasn’t made any arrests was a valid question. Travis does have tons of evidence against the Bhullars, so it really doesn’t make sense that he hasn’t yet. I mean, we know the reason he hasn’t, but Tubbs is right to be suspicious.
