This week’s episode of Big Sky was much better than 2×11 “Do No Harm.” There was a lot of action, a few edge of the seat moments, and a whole lot of shooting. They even managed to get a redemption arc in that I would have never seen coming.
Let’s discuss ‘Big Sky’ 2×12: “A Good Boy.”
Unexpected Redemption
From the moment we were introduced to Max’s mom’s boyfriend T-Lock, I knew he was going to be trouble. I found myself wondering what Rachel liked so much about him because he gave off creepy vibes and was an asshole to Max. He was basically the reason she ended up in deeper trouble with the drug money she and her friends took because he took the money and tried setting up his own deal that went sour. Color me surprised when he finally did the right thing.
When Rachel and Max were kidnapped by Dietrich’s henchman Bob who was holding them as ransom for the money T-Lock stole, he decided to go to the police for help. In episode 2×11: “Do No Harm,” T-Lock was planning to turn himself in when he was picked up by Jenny and Poppernak. He was very forthcoming and agreed to help them bring Bob so that he could save Rachel and Max. Jenny comes up with a plan to bust Bob and rescue Rachel and Max.
Travis who shows up prior to the sting, doesn’t think Jenny’s plan is a good idea or that it will work. As we all know, Jenny doesn’t like being told she can’t do something, so she proceeds with the sting as planned. T-Lock is of course shocked to see Travis because the las time he saw him, he was inside of a hole begging Travis to spare his life when he thought he was a guy named Stone who worked for Dietrich. Now, I have no idea if Travis told T-Lock who he actually was when he let him go but, my guess based on T-Locks reaction was he still didn’t know.
T-Lock was all set up and ready to go with the wire and everything to meet Bob and it seemed like plan was going to work. Unfortunately, as most shows like this go, things got complicated. Somehow, Bob was able to figure out that T-Lock was wearing a wire. When he go to the location they were supposed to meet at, Bob instructed him to lose the wire and then he led him to the location with a series of intricately planned steps. T-Lock never hesitated to follow Bobs instructions because he truly wanted to rescue Rachel and Max.
I was not expecting to end up liking T-Lock at the end of this at all. But I guess I misjudged him because in the end he did do the right thing. It was so sad to watch him tell Jenny to let Rachel know he loved her. Jenny did the whole “stay with me” thing but, we all knew it was too late. Although T-Lock did die, his death wasn’t in vain because he did ultimately lead Jenny and Poppernak to Rachel and Max, so they were able to save them.
Naturally, Jenny, Poppernak, and Travis were scrambling to find T-Lock which they eventually did because Poppernak rocks and was able to pick up the location of T-Locks phone. When T-Lock got to the place where he was supposed to meet Bob, it was clear Bob really wasn’t trying to give up Rachel and Max. T-Lock ended up shooting Bob but, this is Big Sky, so you know there’s always a twist. Turns out Bob was wearing a bullet proof vest, so he was able to shoot and kill T-Lock. What actually made T-Lock’s death heartbreaking was hearing him helplessly yell for Rachel and Max before he got shot. He knew they were somewhere around, and he needed them to call out, but they couldn’t.
The Long-Awaited Showdown
I’m going to spare you all the details about Ronald and Scarlet’s time with Dr. Cowley the man Scarlet took hostage to save Ronald from dying because who cares? All you need to know about that is that Ronald was still alive. Can you tell that I was more than happy for the final Cassie/Ronald moment to happen?
As I mentioned in my review of Big Sky 2×11: “Do No Harm,” Wolf had placed a microchip inside of Ronald which was leading him, Cassie, and Lindor right to him. Lindor was skeptical about what Wolf was leading them into and he expressed that to Cassie. My girl wasn’t about to just throw in the towel though. I mean, the man murdered her father so why would she let that go? Cassie made it very clear to Lindor that they were going to listen to Wolf and see everything through to the end. Because Lindor knew how much it meant to Cassie to catch Ronald, he made the choice to stick by her side.
I’m going to be honest, at first, I didn’t think Cassie and Lindor were going to be able to find Ronald once Dr. Cowley found the microchip (because of course he would) while working on him. Once Scarlet saw it, she planted it on the doctor’s wife Gail to try and lead Wolf, Cassie, and Lindor away. It almost worked but Wolf, Cassie, and Lindor got a good head start tracking Ronald down before Scarlet even discovered there was a tracker. Also, Gail was brave in telling them that Ronald and Scarlet were at her house considering her husband was still being held at gunpoint as he worked to keep Ronald alive.
When Cassie, Lindor, and Wolf show up to the doctor’s place, all hell breaks loose. The doctors got some fight in him too because he ends up stabbing Scarlet in the back of the neck to subdue her. He and Ronald get into a scuffle of course. Unfortunately, the man who saved Ronald’s life is murdered by Ronald. Pretty messed up right? While all of this was happening Wolf who had been handcuffed to the inside of Lindor’s vehicle, breaks free. Ronald and Wolf end up face to face and obviously, we all knew he wasn’t going to be the one to kill Ronald because the Big Sky writers know how much we felt Cassie deserved that moment.
Lindor happens to see Wolf holding a gun on Ronald and they go back and forth over him shooting Ronald. Wolf is literally in “I don’t give a damn I’mma die today” mode and refuses to put the gun down. He says that Ronald needs to be put down. Lindor is not having it and in a strange unnecessary moment, Wolf and Lindor end up shooting each other. Neither one of them is dead though because that would be too predictable.
Cassie and Ronald finally have their face off moment. Not before she’s injured by that psychopath though. Ronald takes a hook and jams into Cassie’s arm. I did freak out when it happened because my head went “what the hell are y’all doing to my girl Cassie right now?” Thankfully, Cassie is one tough cookie because she took that hook and jammed it right into Ronald. I don’t want to sound bad about being happy a character finally got what was coming to them but my sense of relief when Cassie finally got Ronald was real. The runaway fugitive thing went on far too long and Ronald definitely should have been stopped a long time ago.
Other Thoughts
- Okay, the preview for next week has Cassie and Jenny talking like Scarlet is alive. How? Dr. Cowley shoved a knife into the back of her neck!
- And while I’m talking about next week’s Big Sky, who the hell is in the freaking ambulance with Wolf? What crazy storyline are they working on?
- The Bhullar’s were in the episode but there wasn’t really anything worth talking about other than Ren and her suspicions of her dad’s boo thang Alicia. Seriously, Alicia is up to something.
- So, Travis went after Bob, wasn’t able to catch him but was able to get the bag full of money then he lied to Jenny and told her that he didn’t have it. What’s his endgame?
- Brian Geraghty is a great actor, but it was time to put Ronald to bed. If only they could get rid of Wolf too.
