Outlander 6×05 “Give Me Liberty” feels like the real beginning of a war we’ve been waiting and dreading seeing on screen for so long. In truth, though, the war that these characters cannot avoid has had many beginnings, and will have many different ends. We’re still not sure how many of those we will get to see on screen.
But the vibe is certainly different in this episode, as conflicts start to feel less personal and more universal to the time they’re living in. That means some familiar faces, some uncomfortable moments, and yes, some maneuvering is needed, if the Fraser family is going to continue on in anything resembling peace and quiet.
Here are some teases for Outlander 6×05 “Give Me Liberty”:
- Many people have very strong feelings about Lord John Grey. My main one remains this: I’m always happy to see him, and he never feels extraneous to the plot.
- We talk a lot about the Jamie/Claire dynamics, and romance, but one of the things that often goes unsaid is how well Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe play the tiny couple moments. The looks, the understanding, the easy conversations, even the way they sort of move together at times.
- I’ve needed little moments with Marsali and Brianna all along, Outlander.
- The storytelling decisions on this show are often baffling to me, and this episode has one of those moments where I’m not exactly sure I understand why the story needed to be told the way it was. Particularly after all this time.
- Me, continuing to love Season 6 Roger Mackenzie more and more? Well, yes.
- This episode really does well to remember Brianna’s continued storyline this season, too, though she still doesn’t get too much to do.
- We do get some Roger/Brianna content, which this season has been very sparse with.
- Some things are surprising and some …very much not. Malva Christie is the second kind.
- Jamie and Aunt Jocasta have what feels like a very overdue conversation, and I was rooting for Jamie at every second of it. But Jocasta always ends up making you feel for her.
- There are times when you can’t help but top your cap to Jamie Fraser, just because he’s the man he is.
- Not appreciating the way these episodes keep ending, truly not.
