DC’s Stargirl returns with the highly-anticipated Season 3 next month! But, until then, The CW gifted fans a jam-packed trailer featuring romance and peak frenemies drama, all set to Stephen William Cornish’s “No Stopping Us.” The tagline, “When enemies become allies, who do you trust?” is a perfect summation of what’s to come — and what this trailer teases for Stargirl‘s third season.
First and foremost, Stargirl and Starman team up more than they do in the season’s teaser released a week ago. It’s a little alarming to see Sylvester train Courtney without any resolution about how Sylvester survived. Stargirl is likely keeping that reveal under wraps until the season premieres. Ultimately, that decisino is beneficial to the overall appeal of this trailer; it adds an unexpected edge to Sylvester’s scenes.

Although, Sylvester is understandably skeptical of the Dugan-Whitmore’s neighbors since, as he notes, they killed the original Justice Society members all those years ago. No matter if Paula and Larry try to fit back into Blue Valley’s small-town society with their daughter Artemis, Sylvester is on the edge of his seat, anticipating what they may do next. That tension also underscores Stargirl‘s trailer that dares to make enemies into frenemies.
Courtney Whitmore’s wish to “help the bad guys break good” is hopeful, noble, and entirely in line with her characterization.
Courtney tells someone (likely Pat) that they’ll be “unstoppable” against any force that comes against them this season. While Courtney Whitmore is an eternal optimist, this confidence could stem directly from her newfound powers. She will undoubtedly level up this season since her eyes glow like the Cosmic Staff, aka Cosmo, does multiple times in the trailer.

Courtney isn’t the only one leveling up. The Stargirl trailer teases that Rick Tyler may regain his super strength. Plus, it suggests that Cindy Burman may take matters into her own hands to level up on her terms. However, the re-emergence of Steven Sharpe, aka the Gambler (last seen in Season 1), may complicate Cindy’s mission.
Putting context clues together, it appears Cindy is standing outside of The Gamber’s trailer with a gun in her hands. With the possibility of things taking (another) deadly twist, will the new JSA stand by Cindy?
The JSA won’t be able to only focus on Cindy this season because Cameron Mahkent’s powers are coming in at full force in this trailer. This character progression will likely continue the debate of whether Cameron will become a villain like his father or forge his own path. As Stargirl 2×11, “Summer School: Chapter Eleven,” proves, there’s much more grey to that answer than meets the eye.

It appears as though Cameron shows his abilities to Courtney, suggesting their bond becomes stronger during the season. Stargirl Season 2 flips the script by having Cameron fall harder for Courtney than vice versa, that TV shows usually utilize. Stargirl‘s run has steered nearly clear of romantic relationships (and romantic drama) thus far, but Season 3 could change that for the better.
Overall, there’s plenty to look forward to in Stargirl Season 3. This trailer confirms that this coming-of-age superhero dramedy will continue with what it does best while adding twists and turns for fans to enjoy.
