When watching movies, I always wonder who could have also played the role. I’ve been in this industry long enough that I know people would be shocked when/if they ever saw the casting tapes for movies. The people who auditioned and didn’t get the parts.
I do think that everything happens for a reason, but it doesn’t mean that all decisions are right. But maybe some casting decisions were right at the time.
And then maybe again, they weren’t. Everything is subjective.
Hugh Jackman could have starred in Miss Congeniality, as Sandra Bullock‘s love interest. Yes, you read that right. The actor had auditioned for the role of Sandra Bullock‘s love interest, even though he didn’t want the part.
He did want a part in the movie that he’d already been offered a part in – Someone Like You, with Ashley Judd, and his agent was negotiating a deal for him.
Look, no offense to anyone else, but personally would have LOVED to see Hugh Jackman in Miss Congeniality.
When he spoke to Vanity Fair about the audition, he said, “No one knew X-Men yet.”
He continued, “I was a nobody.”
He talked a little about reading with Sandra Bullock, he said he remembered thinking, “Holy shit! She’s amazing! And so quick and fast. I’m not even vaguely up to speed here.’ I was pedaling as fast as I could, but I didn’t know the script well enough.”
He continued, “It was the first time I’d tested [with another actor]. I was impressed that she was in there. I didn’t expect her to be in there. I’m guessing eight people she tested with.”
We’re still focused on the fact that he could have been in Miss Congeniality. Can you imagine?
