Warrior Nun 2×01 “Galatians 6:4-5” is a declaration. This show is about to get crazier. This show is about to get more into the ins and outs of belief systems. This show is about to expose The Order of the Cruciform Sword (OCS). But most importantly, this show is about to get hella queer. I can feel it in my queer bones as easily as I can breath air. There is something brewing between Ava and Beatrice. Also Lilith has reached the stage where I just want her to hold me in her strong arms and teach me how to beat the shit out of people. That’s queer too.
Are we really getting Avatrice?

Back in 2020, creator Simon Barry told Variety, “There’s definitely something there with Ava and Beatrice in the sense that, Beatrice openly admits she’s gay and that’s a part of her journey and part of our story. Does that define Ava? Well, that remains to be seen.” And I’ve become so used to being queerbaiting till the ends of the Earth that I didn’t put much weight into his words. He’s the creator after all and he can’t crush the hopes and dreams of shippers everywhere in advance. Teasing is the name of the game after all for many. Teasing with no delivery to be specific.
But Warrior Nun seems to be delivering when it comes to something brewing between Ava and Beatrice. There was a moment on that dance floor where Ava saw something in Beatrice. She saw the beauty of this power woman she has come to call one of her closest friends and allies. And just that little spark, that little knowledge, has absolutely transformed her into seeing the possibility of something more with Beatrice. I love that. Not because I like slow-burns. I do. But because it feels like a deliberate step towards something more between them.
I’m also glad that there’s a step towards Avatrice from Beatrice’s side too. She’s jealous. 100%. She probably doesn’t understand it yet because she hasn’t really been afforded an opportunity to explore feelings like this. But she feels something more than friendship for Ava. And I’m glad that Warrior Nun isn’t just throwing her into a relationship. They’re letting Beatrice be comfortable in her own skin while not falling into stereotypical “jealous or scorned lover” territory before they become lovers. Because that young man that Ava is getting to know, yeah, I would be cautious too. This is life or death, people.
Dear Lord, I Worship at the Altar of Lilith

My biggest problem with Warrior Nun 2×01 “Galatians 6:4-5” is that Adriel’s followers don’t make sense. You mean to tell me that you were confronted by Lilith looking like that and you didn’t just fall to your knees and pledge fealty to her? That doesn’t sound right to me. Because if I saw Sister Lilith dramatically take off her cloak and then walk towards me as the shadows and light bounce off her chiseled arms, I would give in. “Yes, I will follow you into battle. No, Adriel doesn’t matter anymore because I am on Team Lilith. Look, I even bought the shirt!”
Besides that tomfoolery, I’m really excited for the direction that Warrior Nun is taking Lilith. All of season one she coveted the Halo. And who wouldn’t after practically being trained for ages to be its bearer. Now Lilith is on a new path. Being taken to Hell changed her and there’s no going back to the woman that she was before. And from what we’re seeing in this episode, she’s ok with that transformation and using it to guide her and give her the power to do what she has to to get revenge against Father Vincent and find Mary.
After everything that Lilith and Mary went through in season one, that is still her sister and her family. And Lilith will do everything she can do find her. But on the off chance that Father Vincent was right and Shotgun Mary is dead, Lilith is going to tear him apart. We saw the way Lilith tore into that believer of Adriel. There was rage there. Justified rage. And when she gets a chance, she will take down Father Vincent and Adriel. It doesn’t matter if people think that he’s a holy being. Lilith’s family has been messed with. Before that Lilith was a force to be reckocked with. Now she’s unstoppable.
Who is Yasmine? Who is Miguel? What is Happening with Adriel?

There is something about Yasmine (Meena Rayann) and Miguel (Jack Mullarkey) that has instantly won me over. And this is coming from someone who doesn’t like new characters messing with the flow of things. But I really like both of these introductions in “Galatians 6:4-5.” Personally, I think I like both of them because it feels like Warrior Nun is going a different direction with both of them and luring us into a false sense of security where we think we know who these people are. Yasmine, the reporter who is looking for the “truth” at any cost and Miguel, the ploy that is going to come in between Ava and Beatrice.
But there’s something different with these two.
Yasmine is absolutely looking for the OCS. But I’m no fool. Just because Warrior Nun laid out the discovery of the OCS facilities with her computer hacking time doesn’t mean that I believe that she did it. It’s too easy. If anything, she looks eager to find out who these badass women are. Maybe she hopes to join them? I also really like that they had her instantly go up against a formidable man aka Pope Duretti. She went for the heavy hitter to get answers to what she wanted and that shows that she’s willing to go the extra mile. I’m also betting that she’s on the same side of Miguel.
This young blonde man aka Miguel isn’t here to separate Ava and Beatrice. If anything, he’s there to help and I feel zero romantic tension between him and Ava. He has his own mission and is doing things on his own to fight back against Adriel, who has apparently figured out how to get a fancy mansion with security even though he’s been stuck underground for ages. But whatever, back to Miguel. That man is trying to change the world and I’m begging the show to make it that he’s family or something to Ava. Or maybe nothing at all. Maybe he’s a man trying to do the right thing. And I can back that.
Warrior Nun season 2 is now available on Netflix.
