Get ready to paint the town (and all that jazz) in season 2 of Apple TV+’s Schmigadoon!
As seen in the new trailer, released Tuesday, the musical parodies galore continue for Melissa (Cecily Strong) and Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) in the upcoming season of the musical comedy series.
Calling back to the monotony that spurred the musical adventures in season 1, the trailer opens with their tedious everyday lives before Melissa proclaims her desire to return to Schmigadoon. The two dress in garb fitting of the uncomfortably idealistic setting of happily-ever-afters in season 1 only to find themselves in a darker, raunchier place called Schmicago, spoofing the musical Chicago.

Even though Josh may have come around to be a believer of both musicals and Mjolnir by the end of season 1, his willingness to return to Schmigadoon isn’t indicative of a legitimate newfound interest in that form of entertainment.
The Schmigadoon! season 2 trailer shows that Josh’s musical knowledge is still lacking. He’s confused by the not-Billy Flynn (Tituss Burgess) character’s role and needs Melissa to explain how there was once a time where musicals often had narrators.
The happily ever after that Melissa and Josh were hoping to find once again comes into question when they arrive in Schmicago. Because the musicals they’re living through aren’t those kinds of uplifting Golden Age musicals with classic Rodgers and Hammerstein bliss.

Aside from the main feature of Chicago, the second season will showcase spoofs of Cabaret, Hair and Sweet Charity among other musicals from the ‘60s and ‘70s.
Many names from the first season have returned for the second one — including Dove Cameron, Kristin Chenoweth, Ariana DeBose, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, Alan Cumming, Martin Short and Aaron Tveit. Burgess and Broadway standout Patrick Page are new additions for Schmigadoon! season 2.
The first two episodes of Schmigadoon! season 2 premieres on Apple TV+ on April 5.
