Perfect Addiction officially became our new favorite movie! After our spate of interviews with the cast, it’s time to sit down with Castille Landon about female empowerment in the industry and how a female point of view makes a difference. Ready?
Here we go!
Nailing an Adaptation like Perfect Addiction is Art

It’s not the first time that Castille Landon has faced the challenge of adapting a young adult romance to the big screen and she always manages to capture the spirit of each story. It’s just what she did with After We Fell and After Ever Happy and she is doing now with Perfect Addiction. But why is it important for her to nail every adaptation?
Well, Castille Landon shares with us the need to honor the source material as she identifies the key points in the story where the essence of the characters is reflected.
Speaking a bit more about being faithful to the source material, Castille Landon walks us through the key scenes and moments that she needed to make sure to include in the Perfect Addiction movie. In this way, we learn a little more about Castille’s working method, a method that, without a doubt, results in one of the best adaptations of young adult romance.
In addition, Castille Landon confesses to us the scene that she is most proud of in the Perfect Addiction movie in terms of transfer from paper to screen. And yeah, we’re not going to reveal that so watch the video for more details!
A Female Point of View is Always Necessary

It’s undeniable that adapting a book like Perfect Addiction to the big screen is not easy. For many reasons. Castille Landon discusses with us the necessary balance between the needs of the studio, what the fans and the author want to see, and the role that social media plays in all of this.
In addition, Castille points out the need for a female point of view when it comes to romance, especially young adult romance like Perfect Addiction. The female point of view gives it that special sensitivity that these stories need to reach the public and it’s the chef’s kiss.
Delving a little deeper into the female point of view in the industry, Castille Landon shares with us everything the industry has yet to achieve in terms of including more female directors to its credit. Even though there is a push in the industry that has improved things, we are still very far from the goal.
Speaking of strong and empowered women, Perfect Addiction is led by a female MMA fighter and this type of fighting plays a major role in the story. Castille Landon explains the process of creating these scenes from the initial choreography, going through the conversations about the violence that was going to be shown on screen, and some accidents on set.

Interviewing Castille Landon was a real pleasure. She directed two of my favorite — and best — movies in the After franchise and getting the chance to talk with her about her creative process and her vision of female empowerment in the industry was like a dream.
It’s one of those interviews that you have to see to fully enjoy it because all the words we write fall short to describe it.
