According to Deadline, Louis Hofmann will join Monstrous Beauty alongside Bella Ramsey, Dominic West, Ruth Negga, and Fiona Shaw. The film is selling at the Cannes market by HanWay ahead of a planned September shoot.
Ramsey has previous experience in royal courts due to her role in Game of Thrones and, in Monstrous Beauty, she returns to the royal court as an aspiring playwright in the court of King Charles II who suffers from a rare condition that means she is entirely covered in hair.
For his part, Hofmann will play Vale, an “average actor and extremely skilled lover by trade — but it’s his undeniable beauty that attracts Barbara’s (Ramsey) attention and he quickly becomes an object of infatuation and her muse”.
As for the team behind the scenes of Monstrous Beauty, Romola Garai will write and direct alongside producer Matthew James Wilkinson. Laura Bellingham will be the director of photography, Francesca Massariol will be the production designer, Annie Symons will be the costume designer, Nadia Stacey will be the hair and make-up designer, and Sarah Angliss will be the composer.
