Virgin River Season 5 is coming to Netflix in a couple of weeks, and we’ve got a few things we are really hoping to see when the show returns – and some we really, really hope don’t happen. Virgin River has always been a mix of low-level drama (the cliffhangers that end up being nothing! the way everything is so over the top!), romance and good, old-fashioned found family feels, and we always want more of that.
But the drama, that can stay low-level, please. Don’t take it up a notch. It’s Season 5, we want good things to happen to these people, at last. Also, some time passing wouldn’t go amiss. Charmaine has been pregnant for 84 years at this point! How long is Mel’s pregnancy gonna last? Will we have to wait until Season 9?
So yes, here are 5 things we want to see in Virgin River Season 5:
More of a Focus on Mel and Jack’s Romance

It’s been up and down for the main couple of Virgin River, but it’s Season 5. We’re done with the downs. They are done. We want the show to give us steady, happy Mel and Jack. A good amount of domesticity, and the two of them supporting each other and enjoying this magical time. That’s what we want.
They’ve already proven they are the type of couple that can support each other through the hard times and lift each other in the good times. They’re past the big hurdles, or they should be. Now we need more of the good times, please, and thank you.
Hope the Mayor

Our favorite Hope was the one telling people what to do, the one that knew everything, the one in the middle of absolutely every little thing happening in this town. And though we really hope the show respects Hope’s journey of healing, we’d like to see her go back to being that, at least a little bit. We miss that Hope. We have a feeling Doc does too.
And that’s without going into the problems of small-town governance that surely popped up in her absence.
Another Romance We Can Root For

We’re not even picky about who, we just want another romance to root for, one the show devotes time to. If it’s to be Brady and Brie, so be it, but the show has always played fast and loose with whether those two are actually going to last – and we know how the books go in that regard, so we’ve never wanted to invest. They’re not the only options, though. There’s Preacher and Paige! Or Lizzie and …eh, Ricky is gone, so Denny? Or perhaps the show is finally ready to go for Brie and Mike?
But honestly, just give us another couple to care for. It shouldn’t be that much to ask.
No Drama For the Sake of Drama

We know what kind of show this is, so in a way, this feels like asking the sun not to shine, or dogs not to bark. The show thrives off small-time drama, after all. But drama can still make sense and drive the characters forward. Not all drama is drama for the sake of drama.
Virgin River can give us the kind that feels earned, and that is actually telling a story. Not the kind that’s just about shocking us, or worse, making us feel bad. Pretty please.
The Town Coming Together

This one seems obvious, but the show is at its best when everyone is coming together – and supporting each other. From the looks of the trailer, we’re going to get another chance for that to happen, and we hope it’s a chance for Virgin River to be even more than it was.
So many of the best moments of the show, outside of the main romance, have happened when people unexpectedly come together to help each other. It’s not why we watch, but it’s one of the biggest reasons this show is compelling even outside the romance. So, yeah, more of that, please.
