We’ll always love The Last Song, but we consider that to be a good thing. Not all Nicholas Sparks movies are great, but they are filled with cheese (and that’s a good thing).
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth starred in the movie together. It was the start of their relationship, one that we all followed for years (and if you say you didn’t we’re going to call bullshit). Though Miley and Liam don’t talk about their relationship, which we can also appreciate, Miley did talk about the casting of Liam in The Last Song.

In her Used To Be Young series, Cyrus talks about how she had a contractual obligation to do another film for Disney. She didn’t want it to be another Hannah Montana movie and so well, it was The Last Song.
She talked about the auditions for Will, who is her boyfriend in the movie. She said, “We had gotten it down from thousands to the final three. Liam was a part of the final three.”
I think that one thing that we can all agree on that part of what made The Last Song special was the relationship that was unfolding between Miley and Liam. The two were falling in love in real life.
And we all got to see it on the screen.
Miley agrees. In the video she said, “I think one of the elements that made that movie feel so special was it was watching two very young people fall in love with each other, which was happening in real life and in real time. So the chemistry was undeniable and that was the beginning of a long 10 year relationship.”
We love a self aware queen.
