We watch a lot of TV and movies! And we listen to a lot of music, podcasts, audiobooks…so yeah, we’re fangirling over a lot of things! So, each week we come together to highlight all the feels they give us throughout the week. On these Fangirlish Feels of the Week, there are five categories and many thoughts! Ready?
Here we go!
What You’re Fangirling Over This Week
Amanda: Aaron Tveit sang “I’m Just Ken” at his New Year’s Eve concert, and I couldn’t have asked for anything more. His job is sing. It’s perfect. I’m officially adding Ken to the list of roles I want Aaron to play if they were to ever come to Broadway.
Ashley T.: HAIM. They’re my new favorite band. I will elaborate more in the “What we’re listening to this week” section. Mr. Nerdy Blogger got me their first two records on vinyl for Christmas (already had Women in Music Part III), and it is a superior listening experience on vinyl vs. digital.
It’s a fuller sound, you get different tones, AND the liner notes are just so cool. Plus buying physical media does a heck of a lot more to support the artist than streaming does, so don’t @ me. You might say, “Now I’m in It.”
Ashley W.: It may be a new year, but I am still obsessing over the same ship I have been for three and a half years or so (and counting): Daisy Johnson and Daniel Sousa (also known as the adorably perfect ship name of Dousy) from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. And that’s clearly not gonig to change just because the calendar now reads 2024.
At this point, I think that pretty much solidifies the fact that they’re my OTP. Every time I’ve teared up or cried this year has been because of them, whether it was a result of just looking at pictures or GIF sets of them or rewatching their scenes. It’s a very fangirl thing to do, but I’m just glad that all my cries for the year so far have been good.
Rachel: I’m still on a high from the batch of new stills we got on Christmas for Bridgerton season 3! Colin and Penelope look gorgeous! We got a still of Anthony and Kate!! We got our first official look at the new Francesca!
AND COLIN HAS A BANDAGE ON HIS HAND!!! Fans of the book series will know why that gives all Polin fans a lot of feels. To top all that off, we got a teaser poster too. A great one. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to us all!
Lizzie: I’m not sure if fangirling is the right term, but I loved Society of the Snow. It broke me, it made me feel things, and it made me want to hug the people I love. Please give this movie all the awards, thank you.
WTF Moment of the Week
Ashley T.: This is a really GOOD WTF. I woke up on Christmas Eve to find that Kelli Maroney, 1980s horror icon and star of Night of the Comet had found the piece I wrote for Fangirlish on 5 deep cut Christmas movies (where I touched on Night of the Comet) and shared it on her personal page.
The icing on the cake was that she then went and liked my Facebook page where I share my writing/podcasting. From one fangirl to another, I thank you, Kelli. You are a wonderful human and totally made my Christmas by doing that.
Ashley W.: All of the horror stories on TikTok about preteens being the worst at Sephora! Such stories shouldn’t even exist, because what business do preteens (or even younger kids) have shopping at Sephora? But apparently it’s a thing.
I’ve only ever gone to Sephora to accompany my sister, and I already found that to be an intimidating experience in general. But now I feel like I need to be wary of any preteens I encounter while shopping, but especially at Sephora.
Lizzie: Zack Snyder got a profile icon on Netflix. Yes, you read that right. I almost don’t need any commentary here.
What We’re Listening to This Week
Amanda: “Not My Fault” by Renee Rapp and Megan Thee Stallion has been among the many songs I’ve had on repeat this holiday season, but it’s definitely been playing more and more as we get closer to the new Mean Girls movie.
Ashley T.: I can’t stop listening to HAIM. Like full discography, every concert I can find on YouTube, interviews, deep-cut performances, etc. I’m a musician who forgets I like music because I’m also a podcast addict. But for the past 2 weeks, it’s been nothing but HAIM.
It’s made me pick up my guitars again and learn new songs. I learned 4 of their songs in a weekend, which is something I’ve not done since high school. Their music has made me feel the most like me in about 3 years. Can’t recommend them enough.
Rachel: Of course, I had to listen to the episode of “What A Barb!: A Polin Podcast” where they discussed the new Bridgerton season 3 stills. It’s fun to hear others fangirl just as much as me over the same couple.
What We Rewatched This Week
Amanda: I hadn’t watched Barbie since I saw it in theaters in July, and now that it’s finally on streaming, I got around to rewatching it. It’s just as funny and emotional as it was the first time.
Ashley T.: Mr. Nerdy Blogger hadn’t watched Polite Society yet so we put that on New Year’s Day. I got to see it once in the theater last year and absolutely loved it. It’s a wonderful action comedy about sisterhood, has great martial arts sequences, and a little splash of sci-fi. We laughed out loud multiple times watching the film, so I think you might do the same.
Ashley W.: I adore West Side Story. I do prefer the stage musical to the films, but I couldn’t resist watching the 2021 movie when it was on TV earlier this week. And what’s great about the Steven Spielberg version is that I can play “Spot the Newsie” and point out every time someone who was in Newsies on Broadway is on the screen.
Rachel: I rewatched Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One and it’s still an excellent action film. Something I noticed this time around is how good Hayley Atwell’s performance is. After the next film, reboot this series with her instead of Cruise in the lead role. How about we do that, Hollywood.
Badass Character of the Week
Ashley T.: After watching Polite Society again, I’ve gotta say Ria is a real badass. It’s positively ballsy to do what she did, defying her parents, and truly risking her life. I won’t say more in case you’ve not seen it yet, but I would encourage you to definitely check it out. Rachel here at Fangirlish did a write-up of Polite Society in her underrated films of 2023 list, so take a look at that for more reasons why to watch Polite Society.
Ashley W.: Kahhori was one of the best parts of What If…? season 2. While watching her episode and seeing her grow into the superhero she is, I just remember thinking about how much of a badass she is. Kahhori is unapologetically herself, is committed to her people, and isn’t afraid to do what’s right even if it’s not popular. She’s strong and powerful — mentally and physically — and becomes a great leader.
Rachel: I think for me this week, the badass character is Percy Jackson. I’m really enjoying the Disney Plus series, and the latest ep was a good showcase for Percy’s heroism. Facing the Echidna (I hope I spelled that right) monster while suffering a poisoned wound to save his friends? That’s badass. (Also, thank you, Ashley T.!)
