We watch a lot of TV and movies! And we listen to a lot of music, podcasts, audiobooks…so yeah, we’re fangirling over a lot of things! So, each week we come together to highlight all the feels they give us throughout the week. On these Fangirlish Feels of the Week, there are five categories and many thoughts! Ready?
Here we go!
What You’re Fangirling Over This Week
Ashley T.: TrekTalks 3! It’s happening TODAY, January 13, 2024, at 9:45 am PT/12:45 pm ET on YouTube. It’s a Star Trek telethon in support of The Hollywood Food Coalition, which works to end food insecurity in southern California.
It’s 8 hours of Star Trek interviews, discussions, and conversations with Trek actors, writers, showrunners, and members of the Trek community.
It’s basically going to a Star Trek convention in your pajamas from the comfort of your couch. Best of all, it’s free! What’s not to like?! Consider donating to the cause, or if you can’t, please spread the word by sharing the info at TrekTalks.net.
Ashley W.: When Reneé Rapp was cast as Regina George in Mean Girls on Broadway in 2019, I remember thinking how perfect she was for the role. Five years later, she’s back in the role but, this time, for the movie musical, and she is amazing. I’m so glad I finally got to see her take on the iconic queen bee, and I can confidently say she is my favorite Regina.
Jasmine: Listen, anyone who knows me, knows my ultimate fangirling right now involves all things Spencer and Trina AKA Sprina on General Hospital. I NEVER get tired of watching clips of them on YouTube. It’s sort of become my comfort watch. And Sprina fan LMMN has the best YOUTUBE channel to provide me all the clips I need.
Rachel: My Victorian detective will-they-or-won’t-they ship was back on my screen this week! Miss Scarlet and the Duke began season 4 and William and Eliza were as perfect as ever. And the progress of their relationship is really working right now. “You look tired.” “You look beautiful.”– if that doesn’t say future married couple, I don’t know what does.
WTF Moment of the Week
Ashley W.: If you’re an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fan who has seen Echo, then there’s a good chance you also swore at your screen when you saw that the actor who plays Vickie, Thomas E. Sullivan, is the same actor who plays Nathaniel Malick in season 7 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Nothing against Sullivan, who does well as both characters, but wow, are his Marvel characters the worst! It is, however, kind of cool to see the list of actors who have portrayed two different characters in the Marvel universe grow: Gemma Chan, Katy O’Brian, Kenneth Choi and Enver Gjokaj just to name a few others!
Jasmine: That ridiculous debacle with the congressional leaders when Hunter Biden showed up to testify in person yet they still wanted to hold him in contempt for showing up IN PERSON because they wanted to depose him behind closed doors. Make it make sense.
Rachel: For a good WTF moment this week, I was pleasantly surprised to see The Gilded Age nominated for the ensemble cast of a drama series award at the SAG Awards. This was unexpected but deserved, I feel, given the strong second season of the show. The cast is packed with Broadway veterans too.
Ashley T.: The ending of Echo had me yelling at the TV! I can’t wait to see what comes next with that particular plot thread.
What We’re Listening to This Week
Amanda: Reneé Rapp’s version of “World Burn” from the new Mean Girls movie musical! It’s epic and definitely my favorite song from the movie. She actually recorded a promo video of the Broadway version of the song when her casting was first announced for the Broadway musical, and while she sounds great in both, her growth and power really shines in the studio version for the film.
Jasmine: I’ve been listening to a lot of the indie artists I’ve discovered recently like Tokyo Tea Room. I found their music last year when songs started playing in my recommendations list. I fell in love with their sound and haven’t stopped listening. And now I’m waiting for them to release their EP and album. Bring on the new music!
Rachel: I’m trying to get back to making fan videos and the song “Say You Love Me” by Jessie Ware is the one I’m using in my next vid, so I’ve been listening to that a lot. It’s excellent.
Ashley T.: It’s more HAIM and Jess Ray for me this week. Can’t get enough of those ladies. Their songs are in a comfortable singing range for me and both artists create music that I find instrumentally interesting. Definitely worth checking out!
What We Rewatched This Week
Ashley W.: I knew Echo was going to make me want to rewatch Daredevil, so I started my rewatch this week. I’ve made it only through season 1 so far, but I’m once again reminded of just how great (and incredibly emotional) of a show it is.
Seeing Matt Murdock become Daredevil is such a compelling journey, and witnessing the terror and power of Wilson Fisk continues to be intriguing and frightening. Also, what a pleasant surprise it was to see Daredevil be officially deemed as MCU canon when it was added to Marvel’s “Timeline Order” section on Disney+!
Jasmine: Law and Order: SVU. If I can’t find anything on, there will no doubt be a SVU marathon. I don’t care how many times I’ve seen an episode, I always watch.
Rachel: I rewatched Blue Beetle this week because it’s so good and entertaining. I hope somehow we get more of Jamie and his family someday.
Ashley T.: This is a sort of rewatch for me. Mr. Nerdy Blogger loves Reservation Dogs. I’ve seen a few episodes with him, but I never started watching it for myself until this week. It’s seriously one of the best-written shows I’ve ever seen. I’m looking forward to catching up on it.
Badass Character of the Week
Ashley W: If you’ve watched Echo, then you know Maya Lopez is an extreme badass of a character. Deaf and an amputee, Maya is a fearless, ruthless, and determined individual and fighter who can hold her own—including Daredevil himself. And her ending on the show? The way she won that last fight? Incredible! I don’t want to give too much away, but watch Echo and you’ll know exactly what I mean.
Jasmine: Ava Jerome on General Hospital. My queen let one Esme Prince have it when she pressed charges after she broke into her home. She and Esme have had their fair share of run-ins.
But, seeing her show her love for Trina Robinson (who Esme drugged and framed in 2022) by having Esme arrested for a crime she committed and admitted to, was delicious. Maura West is a Soap Opera queen and she delivered that entire episode with her mannerisms and every line she spoke.
Ashley T.: Got to agree with my name twin; Maya Lopez is taking home the badass of the week award from me. I loved Echo and that final fight was truly *chef’s kiss*. It’s a series I’m looking forward to watching again.
