Ever since she appeared on The Last of Us, I’ve wanted to see more of Nico Parker. Her Sarah Miller was iconic and tore me apart in a way that I didn’t think possible. And with her role as Astrid in the live-action How to Train Your Dragon ages away, it’s exciting to know that we might be getting more of her singular talent in her newest movie Suncoast, which combines humor with a touch of grief.
In Suncoast she plays a young woman torn between taking care of her brother, and how that’s shifted the dynamics of her family, and setting about defining her own life. That’s where Woody Harrelson’s character comes in. He’s an eccentric activist “protesting one of the most landmark medical cases of all time.” They form an unlikely friendship that gives her perspective on life, death, and her sick brother.
Written and directed by Laura Chinn, Suncoast is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. It also stars Laura Linney, Ella Anderson, Daniella Taylor, Amarr, and Ariel Martin. In a director’s statement, they explained that “Humor has provided me with a healing salve for all my emotional cuts and
bruises and Suncoast was born out of the desire to share that salve. With Suncoast, I wanted to add lightness to some of the hardest moments of human existence.”
