Last year, I took a break from writing FBI reviews, because, well if we’re being honest, anything in the Wolf Entertainment realm was letting me down. It’s not to say that I still don’t feel the same way (I do), but sitting down and watching the season premiere of FBI: International, I remembered why I loved the show.
I love it because of an amazing cast of actors and the way that they brought their stories to life. I love it because the characters are a chosen family. I love it because Smitty and her bad ass driving. I love it because I always feel something watching the show.
And not all shows make you do that.
I have to admit I was a little afraid of how they would pick up the season, because the way that they ended last season was so traumatic. A bombing? Is everyone alive? Who could be hurt?
And they pick up right where they left off. The bombing happened because of Olivia Thornton and the infamous arms dealer named Yusuf Sydin has called for her assassination. Somehow though, Thornton escapes and Raines thinks that she’s just going to wait as her heads up the rest of the stairs to get to his team.
Though, if I was Raines, I would have headed straight to my team also. We knew, because it’s TV that at least one person was going to be hurt and that person was Smitty. Now, that just pissed me off, because Smitty must be protected at all costs. And then again, even then, when you think it can’t get worse. It does. Raines gets hurt saving Powell.
We all knew that Heida Reed would be leaving the show (one of the worst kept secrets ever), I have to admit that I thought that she would be the one that was hurt so that they had a way to write her off. When she didn’t get hurt, I thought that she’d go out kicking ass. Again though, didn’t happen. But she did go out where she’d want to be – with her family. She stayed at the hospital to be with Raines.
It’s a choice that I can respect and that I do respect, but also hate. I hate it because I will miss Reed on the show and I think that she will be hard to replace. Yes, I understand that she’s already been replaced, but the jury is already out on that one. It’s nothing against new series regular Christina Wolfe and her character of Agent Amanda Tate.
Kellet staying at the hospital and being with Raines is what she needed to realize she didn’t want to be on the team anymore. She wanted to go home. That being said, the more the episode progressed, I could see that they wanted Kellet at the hospital, because that meant that we got to meet Agent Tate.
While we don’t know much about Tate, we do know that she’s always prepared. Every single time Forrester is like “i need” she’s like already done. While I knew that this was supposed to mae me think that she was good to take over Kellet’s spot, it just made me annoyed. No one is that prepared and if you are, then what are you doing with all your time, besides working.
Yes, I know that there was a case happening in the episode, but if we’re being honest, I couldn’t concentrate on that. I could only concentrate on Kellet leaving, Raines possibly loosing his leg, and Agent Tate. Oh and then there was the fact that everyone in the FBI universe seems to be besties with Jubel. I am just not sure of what to think of all of the changes in the FBI universe, but one thing that always remains the same is everyones love of Jubel.
Now, knowing that Raines is going to be okay, Kellet goes to tell the team and tell them that she’s leaving. While I do understand that she’s being written out of the show and I do appreciate they didn’t kill her off, it still felt weird. Her whole departure.
As viewers, it’s not up to us what we get to know. While I do think that it’s best that we don’t know everything, I feel like one thing that we can safely say that we do know is that Wolf Entertainment has a habit of really failing it’s female characters across shows. They definitely failed Kellet here. They give them half stories, plot holes, stories that make them victims, and stories that feel like rash decisions versus making ones that really propel a storyline.
That womans storyline.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Scott not being able to interrogate that child, because he knew what it was like due to his Mom made me feel for him.
- When Raines made Kellet promise to not let them take his leg, I cried.
- Powell is a good addition to the team but kinda wondering how him and Vo became so close so fast. Yes, I have seen every episode, but still. I still don’t get it.
- Smitty being like I am over this hospital stay – well that’s all of us.
