Welcome back for another week! Our babies grow up in The Rookie 6×02 “The Hammer” as they celebrate 100 episodes while they show us, once again, that Chenford is endgame and open new fronts that are not entirely correct. Ready?
Here we go!
Celebrating a Milestone in The Rookie 6×02 “The Hammer”
It’s not easy to reach the 100-episode milestone nowadays. The way we consume TV has changed over the years and what used to be shows with 22 episodes per season are now weekend marathons and we jump to another show. That’s why the 100 episodes that The Rookie 6×02 “The Hammer” celebrates are so important.
Celebrating this milestone correctly is almost as difficult as achieving it. And The Rookie 6×02 “The Hammer” does it masterfully. We enjoy callbacks to the first seasons, most of the characters that marked a before and after in the show are present and the episode honors what makes this series great.
However, what makes this episode more special is that it doesn’t stop at the current development of the characters and couples to celebrate the 100 episodes of the series, but instead integrates the celebration into the emotional development of each character, advancing their plots and their conflicts.
So yeah, many shows should take note of The Rookie 6×02 “The Hammer” to know how to brilliantly celebrate a milestone as important as 100 episodes.
Chenford as Central Focus in The Rookie 6×02 “The Hammer”
Chenford is a focal point in The Rookie 6×02 “The Hammer” and we love that! At first, it seems like they are 2 high school kids not communicating and giving each other very direct hints, determined that the other is the wrong one…when the truth is that they are both right. As proven when Tim takes a polygraph for Lucy.
That scene is so beautiful that it has our romantic heart full. It’s a moment full of vulnerability for Tim. He’s opening his heart to her the only way he knows how. The L word appears for the first time…and we’re sobbing!
Tim shows himself as he is, everything he feels. No lies, no deception, no excuses… even when that means accepting his own fears. It’s a very intimate scene, almost as if Tim is completely naked… and as a viewer, it gives you chills. You feel almost as if you are an intruder in something that belongs to two.
“I Love You”/ “We Will Make Through This”
In that scene that The Rookie 6×02 “The Hammer” gives us, we can see that Tim himself realizes that Lucy is partly right. He is afraid of Lucy becoming a detective and working undercover because he feels like he’s walking the same path he walked with Isabel. And he doesn’t think he can handle losing Lucy like he lost her.
At the same time, Tim also has a point because their whole fight arose. After all, Lucy was projecting onto Tim her own fears about his reaction to her professional future, but at the same time, she’s also afraid of not being able to do it…and that didn’t help the fight.
In The Rookie 6×02 “The Hammer” the cards are on the table for Chenford. And we love that Tim is the one who reaches out to her, taking the initiative not only to fix things but to work on his problems because he is not going to allow Lucy to give up her dreams for anything or anyone.
Lucy thanks him for that and the L word that we wanted to see so much appears again and it feels perfect, it feels real. Chenford is going to overcome this and they’re going to do it because they have created a relationship full of mutual trust and solid enough for both of them to be honest about their fears and decide to fight to be together, fight for them. And that’s the basis of a lasting relationship.
Traumas and Kisses
Another point of conflict in The Rookie 6×02 “The Hammer” is what happens between Aaron and Celina. Experiencing a trauma together has brought them much closer…too much in Nyla’s eyes. And she has a point here.
Celina must be careful because in order not to fall too far and have her heartbreak, she has to first find out if what happens between Aaron and her is something natural or the result of everything they went through together.
However, Nyla’s words in The Rookie 6×02 “The Hammer” seem like an omen because Aaron ends up kissing Celina on impulse and she backs away. We don’t think Aaron would have kissed her if he wasn’t having a bad time, we think the attraction is there but it would have gone slower.
What he did only proved to Celina that Nyla was right. We like Celina and Aaron together but we don’t think now is the time for it if we want them to last.
That said, this reminds us too much of the first season and the Lucy/Nolan situation for us to end up liking what we’re seeing, especially since it seems like something is going to happen between Aaron and his psychologist…and that’s worse.
We would prefer that they develop the relationship between Aaron and Celina on their journey to find out if they have something or if everything is the result of trauma.
Other Stuff in The Rookie 6×02 “The Hammer”
- Teasing Chenford’s proposition? We see what you’re doing there!
- I’m intrigued by Lucy’s reaction… it’s a mixture of fear of taking the leap and the desire she wants to do it. We don’t think she’s ready at the moment, but we’re headed there.
- Chenford dancing!
- Finally the L word!!
- The song at the Chenford dance…again, I see what you’re doing there.
- The opening scene is CINEMA.

- Bailey was beautiful! I love her wedding dress.
- After all the mess with the rings, why didn’t we see that part of the wedding?
- I love Angela and Nyla’s friendship.
- Bailey & Nolan are finally married!
- Aaron’s PTSD is simmering, but it’s there.
