Monday, September 9: My Brilliant Friend Season 4

HBO’s adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s novels starts its fourth season the week of September 9. Decades after they first met as children, Elena and Lila once again live in the same neighborhood. In the final season, they’re faced with the unrest in Italy in the late 1980s. Between personal struggles and outside pressures, the women will struggle with their hardest decisions yet.

Tuesday, September 10: Only Murders in the Building Episode 3

Last week’s episode was a gut-wrenching showcase for Steve Martin, as Charles mourned Sazz. Now that Sazz’s murder is an official matter, will the Arconia gang be sidelined? Or can their investigation continue? C’mon, we all know the answer to this one!

Wednesday, September 11: Tell Me Lies Episode 3

Friday, September 13: Uglies

Millennials will probably remember the mid-aughts dystopian YA series by Scott Westerfield. Now, it’s finally a movie, starring Joey King as a teenager in a beauty-obsessed society. Coming-of-age requires everyone to get a mandatory surgery to make them “pretty.” The truth behind the forced conformity, however, is much darker than just beauty.

Friday, September 13: How to Die Alone Premiere

Hulu’s new comedy follows Mel (series creator Natasha Rothwell), a neurotic and broke airport employee. She’s down on her luck, never been in love, and left her dreams behind. When she has a near-death experience, though, she decides to rethink her priorities and go after her long-abandoned hopes and dreams. The premiere week of September 9 will include four episodes, with weekly releases following.

Sunday, September 15: 76th Primetime Emmy Awards
Will Shogun sweep the drama categories? Can anything beat The Bear in comedy (and should it count as a comedy at all)?
