I hate Genevieve and you can’t convince me otherwise.
The thing about Emily in Paris is that I know that a lot of these characters have no loyalty. I know that everyone is different and has their own principles but lordy, this was a lot.
Before I get into this episode, I do have to say that in the last episode, I was wondering where this show was going. This episode made me feel the same way and I am okay with that. I realized that Emily in Paris is changing and that’s a good thing. It’s a good thing for a show to evolve and to be something more than it was.
It’s actually what television is supposed to be.
I may not always understand, but I think that it’s something that I have learned is that even though I can express my dislike for storylines, writers have a plan. Their plan may not be the same as mine, but here we are.
Emily in Paris, I do have one gripe. The fact that the conversation between Camille and Gabriel about the baby wasn’t shown – I think that it would have been good to see. BUT, I think it would have changed the show. That being said, it would have given me some understanding of what is happening between the two.

THE THREESOME IS NO MORE
Yes, yes, I called Gabriel, Emily, and Camille a threesome, because it felt like they were always together. Them being always together wasn’t sustainable — that is something that Emily definitely got right.
What I don’t understand — and maybe it’s just because I wouldn’t feel the same — she feels like she needs to talk to Gabriel. She doesn’t like the way that things were left. Emily and Gabriel both are at fault, but they need to give each other time. They need space because right now it’s all too emotional.
And reacting to something based on emotion is never a good idea.
When Emily leaves her apartment and sees Gabriel, she does just that — reacts in emotion. You can tell that something is wrong with Gabriel and she presses talking. That is until Camille shows up.
The show doesn’t tell you at this point if Camille has told Gabriel what had happened with the pregnancy and while I do understand that, I hate it. Gabriel and Camille’s relationship has always been hard to understand, so us not getting a view of what has happened to make us know them, was a a missed opportunity. I think that it would have changed the show and that is something that I both wanted and am afraid of.
You see, understanding characters outside of the main character is something that I think could only expand the relationship. What do I mean by that? I think that getting to know the ins and outs of Gabriel and Camille more would make us understand their fight to make things work and would take away from people shipping Emily and Gabriel. It would be a gamble.
Say what you want – but nowadays – ships help define a fandom and keep people watching shows. It’s something that is important to a lot of viewers, especially with a show like Emily in Paris. The writers will never make every viewer happy, as ships are a very personal thing. That being said though, you can’t run from defining them. The show, the writers… you have to take that gamble and move forward.
ADOPTION?
Camille and Gabriel are going to lunch. I would love to say that Camille isn’t calculating, but she 1000% is. She knows what she is doing and even if she tries to act innocent, she definitely is not.
Stay with me here, I don’t believe that Camille really loves Gabriel. I think for her, he’s familiarity and comfort. She knows what she is going to get there and she knows what she is going to go through. She knows he’s steadfast and loyal.
She knows that she’s not grieving alone here.
Taking Gabriel to lunch, so approaches the idea of the two of them talking to a priest. While I am not sure why that is necessary – I am also aware that I am not religious so It could just be lost on me. However, if Camille wants to talk to a priest, she should have been honest with Gabriel about why.
Because finding out that you’re supposedly thinking about adopting from a priest, isn’t a good thing.
The one thing that I feel went right with this whole thing was their conversation afterward. Camille and Gabriel are honest with each other. She thought they were looking at each other differently and he says that they shouldn’t have to work so hard to make it work.

LAURENT IS TRASH
Love, love a moment with Luc and Julien. I am all for those moments and think that we need more of them. When the two ran to tell Emily about the new American (Genevieve) working there, I missed working in an office. Love some good gossip.
I also loved that Emily, she’s getting a chance to have someone that she related to in the office. There seems to be a bond between the two of them that is instantaneous. The two go to lunch, and meet the first lady of France, and Emily lets her get to know too much too soon.
You see, one thing that I have learned in life is that it’s okay to be open. Being open is a good thing. No one should be closed off forever in life. But when someone doesn’t know how to act and is doing everything to fit in, they could take advantage.
And Genevieve is definitely going to take advantage.
Her father leaves to go to St. Tropez, leaving Genevieve and Sylvie alone. Sylvie decides to take her shopping and it’s cute. Who doesn’t love a good fashion montage? I do.
It’s what happens next that really makes me mad. Before you say anything, a show making a person mad and feeling things isn’t a bad thing. It’s a good one.
After shopping, Genevieve has what seems like a moment of bonding with Sylvie, except it’s not. I think it’s to try to hurt Sylvie. She says that when her Dad comes to New York, he stays with her Mom and that they’ve reconnected.
It’s giving desperation to me.
I think that Genevieve is a grown girl who wants her parents together and feels like Sylvie is standing in the way of that. It’s giving that she doesn’t appreciate all that Sylvie is trying to do for her and she wants to hurt her.
We rarely see Sylvie hurt, but you can tell by the look in her eyes that she is definitely hurting here. She doesn’t know what to think or how to feel, but she is feeling all sorts of things.
Sylvie is going to act out, trying to hurt Laurent as she’s hurt. In the past, yes, they may have had an open relationship, but she’s remained committed. I don’t think that this is going to end well.

GENEVIEVE IS EVIL
Emily is trying so hard to make Genevieve feel at home in Paris. She wants to give her the comfort that she didn’t get when moving there. It’s cute how excited that Emily is to be a mentor.
BUT – Genevieve doesn’t deserve it. While at first, I would have thought that the conversation with Sylvie and her was a slip-up — I now see she’s very calculating.
We’re at Gabriel’s shoot and he and Emily have it out. Emily found out about the baby from Camille (someone needs to explain to me why these two are trying so hard to be friends) and so she talks to Gabriel. He goes off on her – in French.
I do think in part that Gabriel is right – that Emily should have been trying harder to learn French and communicate in their language. I think that she’s taken for granted learning the language because she is used to the fact that everyone is adapting to her. BUT, I also think that I haven’t seen Gabriel confronting her lack of learning French until this moment.
For anyone, it is easiest to communicate in their native tongue. Gabriel isn’t wrong with telling Emily that she was at fault too. That the lack of communication was in part her fault.
Here’s where I take issue.
We find out that Genevieve speaks French and so Emily asks her what Gabriel said when he went off on her. At first, Genevieve tells the truth, that he said that communication was Emily’s fault. It’s when she says that Gabriel said that he never wanted to see Emily again that I take issue.
Cause like NO.
That’s not what he said. Genevieve is being cold and calculating and she’s trying to ruin lives here. I think that Emily is collateral damage because Daughter Evil (yes, that’s what I am calling G) wants to ruin Sylvie. Yet messing with someone like that ain’t right.
We officially hate Genevieve.

CRAZY HORSE
Mindy is now and forever will be one of my favorite characters ever on television. The reason behind that is that she’s the fierce and independent character who shows the viewer that you can be anyone. The way that Ashley Park brings Mindy to life is something that is special. Especially the way that Mindy and Emily interact.
Mindy has been offered a new job, singing Friday nights at the Crazy Horse. The thing is that at the club, you have to perform topless. It may be a great opportunity for her to earn money for Eurovision, but Nico is definitely not supportive.
I do love Mindy and Nico – seeing them together – in part because Ashley and Paul are together in real life. I think that I may hate the character of Nico, because of how he tries to be controlling over Mindy and her life, but she’s not having it.
But, I also know that as much as she wants to be this fiercely independent person and do whatever she needs to in order to feel fulfilled. I love that Mindy knows when to draw her boundaries and when she knows that she can’t do something, she’ll admit it.
I think that Mindy trusts anyone the way that she trusts Emily. I do love seeing their friendship, and the way that she goes to Emily when her boobs and her voice don’t connect (watch it to see) made me LOL.
I can’t wait to see the way that Mindy progresses. I hope, with all my heart, that we get to know more about Mindy and see her grow. I think she’s going to do amazing things and can we get to Eurovision, please?
WE DON’T LIKE NEW YORK & OTHER THOUGHTS
- Seeing Daughter Evil with Gabriel at the end – we do not like her. She’s after Gabriel. Trash. Don’t want.
- The grocery store scene made me laugh – “Have fun with your meatballs”
- Emily and Camille talking… while it was important, I don’t think that these two are good as friends
- I don’t like that when Mindy is telling Emily about the disconnect between her boobs and her voice, that Emily makes it about her. What Mindy is going through is also serious.
- The whole meeting Brigette Macron – was that really her? I swear I am behind on things
- I feel like Genevieve is going to try to steal Emily’s account in the future
- The whole baby perfume thing threw me off. Is that really a thing?
- I want to know what happened with Julien and his Christmas love
- I still want to know who was in the carriage that the masquerade ball episodes ago
- Also – where is Alfie?
- How did Emily get her phone back? Can’t convince me it’s not the same phone or did she just go buy the same case?
Emily in Paris is streaming now on Netflix.
