We know it’s a matter of opinion, but the world doesn’t need so many Tom Cruise movies. Especially so many of his movies that need to stay where they are – in the past. Now, yes there are exceptions to the rule – Top Gun. Top Gun always deserves the sequels.
We learned that with Top Gun: Maverick.
Now the rumors are that they are bringing a sequel to Days of Thunder – the 1990 movie where Cruise played race car driver Cole Trickle. The original movie was directed by Tony Scott follows Trickle who is, “a hot-headed rookie stock car driver who joins NASCAR and must overcome personal and professional challenges to achieve success.”
We know that Cruise has received a lot of success in his sequels, but Days of Thunder was just not a great movie. Do we understand that others want to capitalize on his success? Absolutely. Top Gun: Maverick did great at the box office. Do we also think that based on that success that Cruise is going to use his star power to reboot movies that he loved making? Absolutely.
Cruise had once nixed a Days of Thunder sequel before, but at the time we heard he didn’t like the idea of being in a television show.
Who knows.
There are always a lot of rumors that float around Hollywood. But hey, to each their own. We do love the fact that Paramount is taking some big swings lately, and they aren’t afraid to go against the grain. But again – Cruise.
Even we can admit that Cruise’s star power has a lot of sway in Hollywood.
