It’s that time again, Star Wars fans: time for the Lucasfilm panel from D23! The fan event has the latest news for us from the galaxy far, far away! This year, the exciting news was that season 2 of Andor now has a release date.
Andor Season 2 will premiere on Disney Plus on April 22, 2025.
The film Rogue One in 2017 introduced Rebel spy Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) as one of the band of freedom fighters who steal the plans for the Death Star superweapon which kicks off the plot of the original Star Wars trilogy.
Season 1 of Andor was set 5 years before Rogue One and followed a year of Cassian’s life. Veteran actors Stellan Skarsgard, Andy Serkis, and Fiona Shaw joined young talents like Adria Arjona and Kyle Stoller to fill out the cast. Season 2 will show the next four years and lead up to the events of Rogue One. Three episodes of season 2 will cover a year in time. That means, just like season 1, season 2 will have 12 episodes.
The first season of Andor was thematically rich, visually gorgeous, and incredibly acted. It truly fired on all emotional cylinders. Even though more than two years have passed, its impact has not diminished. Consequently, the prospect of 12 more episodes of such quality is very thrilling. And so is the thought of more connections to Rogue One. Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma was a major character in season 1, and there was an appearance by Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera. Season 2 will reportedly feature Ben Mendelsohn and Alan Tudyk reprising their roles from the film. They will be welcome presences alongside the strong performers already on this show.
Because of all that, we can’t wait for the rest of Cassian Andor’s journey. We are counting the days until season 2 of Andor premieres on Disney Plus on April 22, 2025.
