We’re back! The Rookie Season 7, Episode 1 ‘The Shot’ opens the new season of the show with an action-packed episode, with Chenford hinting at what’s to come while the show introduces two new rookies, and yet somehow falls short on emotional character development. Ready?
Here we go!
Steps Back in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 1 ‘The Shot’

The Rookie Season 7 episode 1 ‘The Shot’ is one of those really complicated episodes to review because there’s not much to comment on beyond what’s on screen, but we think if we can talk about anything, it’s Chenford. They’re starting this season off in a much better way than they ended it. That bet—which Lucy is clearly going to win—is proof of that.
In a way, we’re back to the beginning. The flirting, the games, the teasing, the jokes, the glances when they think the other doesn’t notice… they are getting close to each other again. And that is an important and necessary first step to get back to what they were. Now they both know what it feels like to be together and to dare to live the love they feel for each other, but they are also much more aware of what they are risking.
Because of this, in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 1 ‘The Shot,’ there are many things left unsaid between Chenford, many repressed feelings, but it’s undeniable that they are rebuilding their relationship. They were broken and now they are learning to glue and fit the pieces together; little by little and with patience, all the pieces will fit back into place and that will be the moment when Lucy and Tim will be together again.

New Blood

On the other hand, The Rookie Season 7 Episode 1 ‘The Shot’ introduces us to two new rookies who join the team, and, while Seth seems too innocent for his own good—something like Nolan raised to the ninth power—Miles seems to us to be a real arrogant and rude jerk. That way of speaking to Lucy, disrespecting her when she is his superior, and that arrogance of thinking that, since he has experience, he is better than Miles and almost everyone in the room with him… unbearable. Seriously, we want to punch him in the face.
The only good thing about this is that in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 1 ‘The Shot’ we saw Tim between jealous and angry because this idiot disrespected Lucy like that and he managed to bring Miles down. Miles thought he was perfect and he couldn’t screw up more on the first day. That cure of humility and Tim’s harsh words suited him perfectly.
Playing devil’s advocate here, though, Miles is living in his car, so it looks like he’s not having a good time, and that does interest us. Maybe all that arrogance and bragging is just a facade. We’ll see…

Other Stuff in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 1 ‘The Shot’

- We don’t understand much about Nolan. Is he hiding an injury so he can come back sooner and be involved in Bailey’s ex’s case?
- We should have seen something about Oscar and Bailey’s ex, and the episode offers us nothing.
- Chenford is still so in love that we just want to lock them in a room.
- This episode has too many guns and little emotional development.
- We don’t know if we like this idea of Lucy as TO, we prefer her undercover.
- Wesley’s jealousy runs the risk of going from a funny anecdote to a pointless obsession.
The Rookie Season 7 airs Tuesdays at 10 pm on ABC.
