Characters Returning in Bridgerton Season 4

In the chat with this season’s leads Luke Thompson, Yerin Ha, and showrunner Jess Brownell, they shared that this season is sexier. We’re going to see Penelope and Colin as pure Polin, since Colin is a wife guy. They have their baby and are very happy — like us. Also, Penelope is publicly posting Whistledown and that makes their relationship with the Queen really interesting this season.
We can expect the return of Anthony and Kate (Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley), we’ll see their baby, and some scenes of marital bliss. Lady Danbury is back and she has to face a challenge. Her relationship with the Queen will be the focus of this season, plus we’ll see the more vulnerable side of Queen Charlotte. Lady Featherington is back as well and she’s at her best being the mother of the most famous gossip writer!
We’ll see more of Violet Bridgerton and we can count on her relationship with Lord Anderson being dealt with quite a bit in the new season. Plus, she’ll be taking care of Eloise because now that Francesca is married, Eloise is her mother’s main target this season, making Eloise turn to Francesca for refuge.

Fan Questions

Thompson, Ha, and Brownell all share that Benophie has a lot of obstacles. The previous 3 seasons have delved deeper into the rules of society and this season is about going beyond that, broadening the context and seeing more of the rules of the outsiders. As for what we can expect from Benophie as a couple, they share that Sophie is dynamic, she’s not a damsel in distress, she makes chess moves and she’s the only one who can get Benedict out of his comfort zone. She’s going to have him on a loop and he’s going to have a mix of strength and vulnerability that’s captivating.
Ha can’t wait for fans to see how Benophie falls in love and the fresh way the love story is going to be treated. Thompson is excited for fans to see Benedict more involved with his brothers, especially Gregory. As for being the leading man, it’s a privilege for him to be in the middle of it all. There’s a whole symphony throughout his character this season and it’s like a very personal thing and experience to live this big journey of the character.
Ha was interested in the role of Sophie because she’s a very strong and independent character, but she suffers for love. At the same time, she has a lot of dignity and respect for herself. But the most interesting thing for her was her journey to understand that asking for help and allowing yourself to feel vulnerable is not a weakness. She also revealed that she got the role just two weeks after her audition.
For her part, Brownell shares that Benedict is someone who lives completely in a fantasy world and Sophie lives in harsh reality due to her circumstances and she needs to dream more. So the theme of the Bridgerton season 4 is to find true love between fantasy and reality. It’s about how the characters find their love story in the middle. Thompson confesses that Benedict is going to be afraid of love but finding it for him is going to be like finding the meaning of things.
As for Sophie’s family, Brownell commented that in the books both her mother and her stepsister are villains and in the show they are too, but they will be different. They have humanized them and have told them why they are like that. So we are going to understand their decisions even if we don’t share them. According to Brownell, in Bridgerton Season 4 there will be a lot of talk about the division between rich and poor people. She also shared that the masquerade ball was one of the most difficult but most satisfying episodes. It is mysterious, dark, and like a fairy tale. There is an impressive dance scene.
As for what fans can expect to see from the book, Brownell mentioned the masquerade ball, the cottage, and the possibility that the cottage has a lake that Benedict can swim in. They also made it clear that Bridgerton season 4 is the most faithful to the book, and Thompson added that the cottage is her favorite location to shoot because it’s beautiful and they spend a lot of time there. Of course, there are going to be small changes regarding the motivations of the characters, especially Benedict, since he will be more delicate about Sophie’s will than in the book.
Thompson shared that he really enjoyed his scenes with Gregory this season and Ha shared that he loved his scenes with Francesca, but can’t say why. Which leaves us totally intrigued!
