It’s the era of sports comedies! Apple TV+ confirmed as much by announcing that Stick, a new golf comedy starring and executive-produced by Owen Wilson, will premiere this summer. The streamer unveiled a first look at the show from Jason Keller ahead of its three-episode premiere on Wednesday, June 4, on Apple TV+. Stick’s 10-episode debut season will stream with one new episode every week until the season finale on Wednesday, July 23.
The first photos for the show introduce Wilson as Pryce Hall. Pryce is described as an “over-the-hill, ex-pro golfer whose career was derailed prematurely 20 years ago.” Stick finds Wilson’s character after his marriage collapses and he gets fired from his job at a sporting goods store in Indiana. So, Pryce pins his future on “a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom” named Santi, portrayed by Peter Dager. As if that’s not enough to grab everyone’s attention, Stick also stars Marc Maron, Mariana Treviño, Lilli Kay, Judy Greer, and Timothy Olyphant.

Stick’s first-look photos excitingly reveal that its fictional world will coincide with golf’s reality. The comedy will include guest appearances from golf superstars Collin Morikawa, Keegan Bradley, Max Homa, Wyndham Clark, and more. Clark, Bradley, and Homa are in some of the photos. Additionally, as seen in the photos, Stick will have cameos from broadcasters Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman. The Apple TV+ comedy will also have cameos from Good Good’s Matt Scharff, Brad Dalke and Garrett Clark, and golf enthusiast Dan Rapaport.
The streamer calls Stick “a heartfelt, feel-good comedy about a found family and their relationships set within the world of golf as it has never been shown before.” The series expands Apple TV+’s slate of sports comedies, joining Ted Lasso. The latter is reportedly in discussion of returning for another season. Meanwhile, Stick will also premiere after Netflix’s Running Point, a comedy starring Kate Hudson as the president of the fictional basketball team the Los Angeles Waves. The Owen Wilson-led series also debuts the same year that Happy Gilmore 2 will premiere on Netflix. Buckle up, sports comedy fans!
Executive producer Jason Keller is Stick’s showrunner. Alongside Keller and Wilson, Ben Silverman for Propagate Content and Entertainment 360’s Guymon Casady executive produce the series. Howard T. Owens, Rodney Ferrell, Drew Buckley, Lee Eisenberg, Natalie Sandy, Christopher Moynihan, Bill Callahan, Valerie Faris, and Jonathan Dayton are also executive producers. Faris, Dayton, David Dobkin, Jaffar Mahmood, M.J. Delaney, and John Hamburg direct Stick.
