Hallmark is marking another year of growth and change. We’ve been following along, and in a world full of chaos, we’ve known that we can escape because Hallmark gives us a lot of joy.
One of the shows that gives us that escape is The Chicken Sisters. The show, which debuted on Hallmark+ last year and is now airing Sunday nights on Hallmark, has kept us thankful for our lack of family drama. But in the same breath, it has kept us entranced because we love drama that we’re not involved in.
And we know now that we have more drama to watch, as the hit show has been renewed for a second season.
“We’re grateful to Annie Mebane for creating the series for television and expertly bringing to life the town of Merinac and its colorful characters in K.J. Dell’Antonia’s beloved book,” began Samantha DiPippo, Senior Vice President, Programming, Hallmark Media. “The show is in great hands with Erin Gibson taking the reins as showrunner this season and we know that our stellar cast led by Schuyler Fisk, Genevieve Angelson, Lea Thompson and Wendie Malick will serve up something special for viewers.”
The series stars Schuyler Fisk, Genevieve Angelson, Lea Thompson, and Wendie Malick, who return for the second season, while David James Elliott joins the cast in a recurring role.
The first season was filled with so much drama and gave us our dislike for Frank, Jr. But after that season one ending, we knew that we were going to be in for something really special.
If you don’t remember what happened with the first season finale, In the season finale, Amanda (Fisk) joined forces with her sister Mae (Angelson), their mother Gus (Malick) and her mother-in-law Nancy (Thompson) to face off against her husband Frank Jr. (James Kot, Virgin River) in the final Kitchen Clash showdown, leaving him to fly solo. Deemed the underdog by Mr. Chicken (Clifton Murray, Painkiller Jane), a successful restaurant chain owner tasked with casting the deciding vote, Frank Jr. was controversially crowned the winner. Sabrina Skye (Rukiya Bernard, Yellowjackets), the show’s host, quit in disgust, leaving her professional future in limbo. Amanda, Mae, Nancy, and Gus opened their own fried chicken restaurant, The Chicken Sisters, while Frank Jr. proudly opened his own establishment as a franchisee of Mr. Chicken’s Cluckery.
In season two, we’re just hoping to bring Frank down a notch and that The Chicken Sisters restaurant stomps Frank’s franchise of Mr. Chicken’s Cluckery. Frank Jr is despicable.
The second season follows Amanda, Mae, Nancy, and Gus as they use The Chicken Sisters restaurant to officially put a generations-long feud to rest, Frank Jr. begins another by opening a Mr. Chicken’s Cluckery on Merinac’s Main Street, and someone (Elliott) from Gus’ comes back to town. In this new chapter, all leading up to Mae and Jay’s Merinac wedding, viewers will follow the Moore-Hillier women as they rise above the roost, proving that family is the only prize worth fighting for.
We’re excited for a second season of the hit show. We feel that with the chemistry the cast had in the first season, things can only get better.
Are you excited for the return of The Chicken Sisters? We are. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
