August is here! It’s scorching hot outside still, and all you want is some A/C, a cool drink, and to stay inside where the sun won’t touch you. Except there’s no new network TV yet, and even the streamers seem to be waiting to give us their best shows.
However, you’re in luck, because Netflix has added some classics that are absolutely worth your time to its library this week. And just so you don’t have to go through their whole list, we’re here to tell you which ones are must-watches.
Clueless
If you haven’t watched this modern re-telling of Jane Austen’s Emma, run, don’t walk to play it right now. Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd star in this one, and though some things don’t hold up as well (this one’s 30 years old, people!), it’s not one of those older movies that’s now so cringe that you just can’t watch it. And hey, the fashion is in again!

American Pie
The quintessential coming-of-age sex comedy, American Pie scandalized a generation while also making it laugh. It feels way less scandalous these days, and some parts are now eyebrow-raising, but it still feels like a must, if nothing else, for understanding what teenagers in the 90s were now. For some younger people, that means their parents!

Groundhog Day
Plenty of movies have done the time loop thing, but few have done it as effectively as Groundhog Day. Phil (Bill Murray) is a hard guy to like. And then he kinda isn’t. And then you’re rooting for him, not just in life but in romance too. That’s the sign of a well-made movie. Also, a young Andie MacDowell. That is all.

Jurassic Park
With Jurassic World: Rebirth now out and a pretty great reboot of the franchise, there’s no better time to experience (or re-watch) the original movie about bad ideas involving dinosaurs. Capitalism always wins, and sometimes it brings big animals with it, or something.
Added to Netflix: August 1st
Minions
If the minions were your favorite part of Despicable Me (and let’s be honest, they were everyone’s favorite part), then Minions is just the movie for you. This is all the backstory you wanted, and then some. And look, they’re just as adorable as they were when we first met them.
