Season 5 of Emily in Paris has been filled with a lot of surprises. But change isn’t such a bad thing. Sometimes it’s the only thing that keeps a person going – change. The belief that something better can happen; that more is out there. And as a viewer of Emily In Paris, all the change that we have gone through this season, has made me realize that they are setting us up for something new. A reinvention of sorts.
And that’s not a bad thing at all.
La Belle Époque means Beautiful Era. And that’s what Emily in Paris is in. This show has always been transforming the characters and this is just an episode that does. But it also feels forced to a point, making us wonder what could possibly happen if there is a season six.
WHAT ONE DOES FOR LOVE
Emily is always going out of her way for the ones that she loves, I am just wondering, when will one of them do something like that for her? It doesn’t feel like they ever will.
Now, before we talk crap about Marcello, please let me reiterate I am totally team Marcello. But hey made me so mad this episode. Emily has found Marcello a space for his company. Marcello is excited – his dreams are coming to life and that makes Emily happy. The thing is Emily wants nothing more than to make Marcello happy, but I wonder if she remembers that she needs to take care of herself too.
Marcello is a good man, but he’s also stubborn and doesn’t think about how sometimes his words can be mean. He’s focused on his line, but in doing that he really dismisses a lot of things from her.
Emily wants to have Marcello win and succeed. I do think that he is under an extreme amount of stress and that he does love her, but he’s not open to hearing anything from anyone.
Pierre Cadault has let them use his space and is helping them. Paris Fashion Week isn’t an option so he suggest Venice. While it may not be ideal, it is a good option for them.
MARCELLOS SISTER
Family is everything to Marcello and that is something that I can appreciate. It’s just that his family doesn’t seem to be there for him on the level he needs them to be. Instead, they are all living rent free in his head.
His sister shows up and wants to see what he is doing. He shows her, as he is proud. Only she takes seconds to destroy his confidence. For that, I don’t like her.
Now, his line may not have been amazing but
LUC IS DIFFERENT
When it comes to Luc, I think we’ve all under estimated him. He’s comedic relief at some points, but in that we sometimes forget that he’s a good man. He’s different – yes. But Luc is such a good man. He really cares about everyone.
It’s just that he’s different and we all need to remember that just because he’s different doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. He relates everything to sex, but I have met many of those in my day.
Seeing Luc show Emily is stomping grounds is interesting. He’s got a lot more layers to him than we’ve seen. He used to be a painter and thought he had no talent, but he did love it. He loved his life. He loved creativity.
It was his La Belle Époque.
NICOS FINANCES
Nico has put everything he has into making this line succeed. The thing about him and Marcello is that they want to make it on their own. They do understand that they have an uphill battle. But sometimes that is when people are their strongest.
Mindy has taken on feeling like she needs to help Nico through this. She’s got a big audition that could help Nico, and I can’t help but feel bad for her as she tries to navigate the road that she is on.
The audition is a big moment for Mindy. It’s definitely not an easy thing for her to navigate. I feel for her because she shouldn’t have to be in the position that she is in. She should be able to enjoy her successes and win. Not feel like she has to have them in order to move her boyfriend forward. Especially because Nico hasn’t been the most reliable.
The only person – besides Emily – who asks about the role, or matches her level is Alfie. Now, I still don’t like the two together, but I can appreciate that she has support. Nico praises her for getting the role, but doesn’t ask much about it.
I hate that for her.
ABSINTHE
The agency has to put on a party for an absinthe brand, which hey – I would never drink, but it’s not about me. It’s about them and making that money. They plan a party, and Sylvie thought it would be at her husbands club. They couldn’t book it there and she wondered why. Sylvie and her husband may have an awkward relationship to all of us, but I never thought that it would break.
However when he lies and takes out a lot of loans, against the club that Sylvie’s Mom owns. Sylvie is broken up over it and wanting a divorce. Watching her anger, it feels justified. She wants honesty and he doesn’t give that to her.
But the part that got me was how vulnerable Sylvie was over the whole thing. She felt alone and the issues that have been brought to light have made her even more hesitant. Sylvie doesn’t like showing her hand, but suddenly, it’s the only thing she can do.
We end with Marcello calling and telling her how much he believes in her. I guess he is redeemable after all.
