One of the most challenging aspects of friendship is the moments when someone is not being truthful with you. You know that you would give them nothing but your time, protection, and honesty, but they don’t give even that. I am the type of person who would rather be hurt with the truth than a lie. I do think Emily is the same way. At least with honesty, I hurt once.
In Emily in Paris, Season 5, Episode 6, Emily is faced with the truth and the lies. But sometimes, it’s the need for both of them that makes the most sense. For Emily and Mindy, that means that things will have to fall apart to put them back together again.
That happens with a lot of things in life, though – the hard times lead you to the good times. You just have to make it through.

RUNNING IN PLATFORMS
We women can be strange. Meaning we’ll fight when we want to, but sometimes we remain silent. Everything will be “ok” or “fine,” but in reality, it is neither one of these things. Mindy knows that what she did was wrong and wants her best friend back.
Emily keeps saying that she is fine, but Mindy knows that it’s not. Emily has every right to be upset – if not for anything else than she had to hear about all of this from Genevieve. That would be enough to make anyone mad.
The thing about forgiveness is that just because you want it doesn’t mean that you are going to get it. Yet, it doesn’t mean that you won’t search for it. While in the first few episodes of this season, I would have and have said Mindy is so wrong, I can appreciate that in this episode, she ran after Emily.
And who runs?
Emily doesn’t know why it is that she’s getting pelted with things, but when she turns around, Mindy is there. Mindy has been chasing after her to talk. They get really juvenile with the fat back and forth. Emily tells her that she’s not even mad that Alfie and Mindy got together; she’s upset that her best friend lied to her and didn’t tell her anything about this. Emily wasn’t wrong in telling her that she should have told her.
I can understand both sides of this argument, but I also think that Mindy was really in the wrong for this one. I can appreciate, though, that Mindy was like I will give you some space. Only I don’t think that space is really what she needs.
To make matters worse, her first meeting of the day is with Antoine and Alfie. They are picking Gabriel’s replacement, and Antoine only seems to care that the person talking over is hot. He’s so confusing sometimes.
Emily is going to have to come up with a pitch. As Antoine leaves, Emily mentions that she would have been okay with him and Mindy. He’s like Oh shit, Cooper. He says it’s a vacation plan, but we all know that it’s not. Like, the worst part about it again is that they just didn’t tell her like… give her the truth

HOW DO I DO THIS
Seeing Sylvie want an Instagram account was enough to make me fall over. I think Emilie was about to have a heart attack over it. She was excited, though. But why does Sylvie want it? Well, because they have a pitch with L’Oreal Paris. Emily may have ideas, but Sylvie says she needs to do it.
The idea? Celebrating a young woman who is kissing herself through Paris. I can understand why Sylvie thinks that this would be a good idea, but that is because of being inspired by Emily. However, the brand voice is missing, and L’Oreals, whose whole brand is about empowerment.
Instagram suggests that Sylvie follow Antoine and one other person. Emily has to give her a rundown of how to use Instagram, and Sylvie gave her a rundown of who Instagram’s suggestion of Yvette.
Short story – they were friends, Yvette called her a liar and a cheat, and Sylvie, at that point, believes that they will never be friends. The thing that I did love is that Sylvie is really trying to take her power back and really have control over her own company. I also love that Sylvie asks Emily for advice on what to do. She also doesn’t realize that the advice she is being given is the smart thing to do. At least I understood the overall message to be. We all know though, that Sylvie has a mind of her own.

SHE’S GONE
I don’t think that Emily expected Mindy to move out, but she did. She disappeared to Julain’s and didn’t even say a word. Home feels empty with Mindy there, but there is a lot that just feels out of whack for Emily.
But being out leads her to an American bar and trivia night. I wonder why it is that she’s not done this before. I feel like it will be a moment that changes Emily moving forward. But seeing the way that she’s reacting to being around people who remind her of home.
We get to meet Jake, who is played by Bryan Greenberg. He works in the U.S. Embassy, and he invites her to play on his trivia team. Between the two of them, they seem to know everything that there is to know about the Friends television show.
When the two go for walk, they talk like they’ve known each other forever. Emily is happy with her winnings – the Friends t-shirt. Her little taste of home is making her excited. The next day is the 4th of July, and Jake invites her to the Embassy. She makes her excuses – having to work and all.
Rome Emily is definitely gone.

THE FOURTH OF JULY
Emily gets to the office, and Luc is the first person to wish her a Happy Independence Day. Julian is not thrilled, as having Mindy at his house is a lot for him. Emily hasn’t had the best day either – she found Alfie’s underwear in the apartment, which means he and Mindy lied to her again.
It is a day that they’re meeting with L’Oreal Paris, and I have to commend the product placement in this show. Sylvie is pitching the campaign, which is an American in Paris. It’s all the pictures from Emily’s Instagram, and quite honestly, the way that Sylvie presents her makes me feel bad for Emily. But it also made me see the way that people see things differently.
Emily is having the hardest time understanding why it is that Sylvie would present her that way. If we’re being honest, she’s come across a little boy crazy, and I don’t think that there should be anything wrong with that. We all can be whomever we want, and no one should be judged for that.
Love the resurgence of Rome, Emily, though – because it makes her so frustrated that she takes the day off and goes to meet Jake at the Embassy. At the Embassy, she’s making friends, she’s drinking American beer, and having a hot dog. Jake and she look happy. They are kind of cute together, but I’m still on team Marcello.
I need to know if it is true that the Embassy in France has a store in the basement filled with American junk food. That looks amazing, though I would never go for Pop-Tarts. But can you imagine that being your first date? I feel like that would just be so fun.

STALKER
I love that Sylvie has no idea that people can see when she views stories. Seeing her stalk down her old friend Yvette and try and play it off was hilarious. She tries to act all casual, but like you just like her Instagram story.
Yvette is an old friend. Yvette calls her out for seeing the story and then mentions that they are past the point of lying. Yvette has been following Sylvie’s career for years and is proud of Sylvie.
There are friends that you can pick right back up with, and these two are definitely doing that. The two start to play Backgammon and have a good time. But they’re like, yeah, let’s play. Never a good idea, Sylvie. In their 20s that all of these things went down, and Sylvie slept with this woman’s husband. Yvette and her husband are still together.
Sylvia had always thought that Yvette said she cheated at backgammon. Apparently, she was talking about Sylvie sleeping with her husband, but they are able to forgive and move forward.

FIREWORKS
It’s not the 4th of July without fireworks. Seeing her stand next to Jake, I remember that I like Marcello, but I am also still mad at Marcello.
Emily looks like she’s about to cry, but she, of course, says that they are okay. Emily is homesick. Living abroad can be really hard, and she never really talks about how much she misses home. Seeing the two talk about all of the things that they miss made me appreciate the little things that I tend to take for granted.
Jake thinks that everyone keeps him at arm’s length because no one ever knows how long it will last – him being in the same space. And well, his trying to kiss her – that was awkward. But for her, it was something that made her realize that she had found the person that she wanted to talk to, and that person was Mindy.
She’s a better person than all of us, because she goes to Julian’s house to get Mindy. Seeing the two of them apologize to each other – screaming in the streets – I was laughing so hard. Then again, I live in New York, and it happens all the time here.
Mindy and Emily need each other. I do think that they have a lot to work out, but it is a testament to each other that they are always willing to work through things. Besties are supposed to work through things.
It’s the way that these two find their moments that inspires Emily. Friendships are the most important relationships to her. When L’Oreal rejects Sylvie’s original campaign for not being empowering enough, she takes the friendship idea and runs with it.
Seeing Emily and Mindy on the set, Mindy asks if the two actors are supposed to be them. It is supposed to be. Why? Well, what is better than these two? As Mindy says, “There is no one better than us.”
