Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 16 “Anatomy of a Bomb” was one we’ve seen before. Not on this show, but on almost every other procedural on television where the main characters are held hostage. Sometimes the characters are held at gunpoint, and other times, like in this episode, they’re threatened by a bomb. In fact, this week’s Chicago Fire was very similar.
This isn’t to say this was a bad episode. We liked that the Reagans and the Silvers all worked together to figure out the mystery behind Sofie’s liver and teamed up to get everyone out of the hostage situation safely. We also loved that Lena figured out things about her personal life. She’s a strong woman, and she’s finally knows what (and who) she wants. We love that for her. But, we just wish that the plot was a little less predictable.

Saving Sofie

The whole reason why Danny and Lena are taken hostage is Sofie desperately needs a liver, and her father thought she was getting one. That’s why he was in the hospital. But then he finds out there was some sort of clerical error, and she’s not getting the liver. We definitely understood Sofie’s father’s desperation and his confusion. Why would you call someone to tell them they’re getting an organ unless you’re absolutely sure? You wouldn’t. We’re glad that this didn’t make any sense to the Reagans or the Silvers, either, and they worked to solve the mystery.
We also enjoyed watching Sean and Jonah working with the rest of the Silvers and Reagans on this case. Usually, they just hand off a case to the detectives, and they have their own side plot. But it made sense for them to help with Sofie and the bomb since Danny and Lena were trapped in the hospital. They did good work assisting Sarah and Brian and helped solve a mystery and find the bomb. They were a big reason why everyone made it out alive.
Having the hospital admin guy murder Mabel and steal a liver was a twist that we… didn’t see coming. We’re glad Boston Blue at least through this in to make the episode a little less predictable. And in the end, Sofie did get her liver, and it seems like she’ll be fine. And no one died. Except Mable. Who we really didn’t care about. So, maybe the episode was pretty predictable after all.
Lena’s Past and Future

The best part about “Anatomy of a Bomb” was Lena.
She was such a badass when she ran toward the bomb (literally) to stop it. She put everyone else’s safety above her own, and luckily, it worked. In that moment she was a hero. She saved everyone in that hospital, especially Sean and Jonah, who were the closest to the bomb.
Lena also dealt with her personal issues as she saw her ex for the first time in a long time.
Honestly, we really don’t care about Troy. But seeing him again was probably good for Lena as she was able to forgive him and finally move forward. She realized that he’s not the person for her, and Brian is. We loved that she told Brian what she wants. She doesn’t want to hide who she is, and she doesn’t want to give up what she loves. And she shouldn’t have to. Good for her for realizing this, and good for Brian for accepting and loving all of her.
Other Thoughts

- Sean, please, wash your legs. The soapy water trickling down doesn’t mean you’re legs are clean. Ewwww.
- We liked Danny’s insight on the missing body wash. Sometimes people just need a little extra help. You never know what someone is going through at home. Good for Jonah for offering to buy extra body wash for the station.
- Sarah and Brian worked really well together, and they impressed us. We like both of them, but this was the first time they teamed up professionally. They were amazing together, and they both love Lena. We would love to see them work together again.
- We’re going to need to see Danny’s TikTok. ASAP.
