This week’s Boston Blue, “For Those Who Weren’t Heard,” saw Maria Baez’s return. Personally, we’ll never get tired of seeing her. And this time around she’s back not just as Danny’s girlfriend, but as a Detective. So it was really a treat to watch her work with Lena and Danny. And her return also left us with questions about whether long distance relationships can actually work.
The episode also focused on Sarah and how she’s absolutely crushing it career wise and in her personal life. We review Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 15 below!
Danny, Baez, and Lena: The Perfect Team

Watching Baez work with Danny and Lena was so much fun. Danny and Baez didn’t miss a beat and fell right back into their old routine. Watching them try to figure out the motive with the Bellamy brothers and solve the case was fun, and they even impressed Lena. It was also fun watching Baez and Lena tease Danny. We could watch these three work together every episode and not get bored.
The heart to heart that Lena and Baez had was also sweet. Lena encouraging Baez to talk to Danny about what was bothering her shows no jealously between these two women. And that is so refreshing! Not only that, but they seem to like each other and work well together. We could absolutely watch an episode of just these two working together.
At the end of the hour we also learned that her mom has Alzheimer’s and that Baez can’t leave her. Our hearts broke for her, and we understand what a hard place she’s in right now. She loves Danny, but how can they stay together? Baez wants to be with her mom in New York for however many good days she has left, and Danny’s life is in Boston now.
The obvious solution to this would be to have Baez move with her mom and her daughter to Boston. But that would be too easy. Or Danny could just visit New York more often when he’s not working on a case. Again, too easy. But we really hope that Baez and Danny can figure out a way to stay together because our hearts can’t take them breaking up.
We spent way too much time watching them in Blue Bloods and wanting them to be together just for them to break up in less than a season on Boston Blue. And if the show breaks them up, we’ll probably never see Baez again. And we just can’t have that.
Saving Nadine

This was a big episode for Sarah. First, she listened to Jonah and Sean’s concerns about Nadine and looked into Nadine’s father. We’re glad that Jonah listened to his gut and shared his thoughts with Sarah. It shows he has good instincts. We’re also proud of Sarah for diving deeper into Nadine’s dad than previous cops did.
Just because he had an impressive resume doesn’t mean he’s a good person or good father. And he obviously underestimated how smart Sarah is with that plagiarized story about the cat. Did he not realize it would be easy to verify if Nadine ever had a cat? The second Sarah talked with Nadine’s mom, it was all over. Nadine got to go home, and Sarah stopped Nadine’s father from hurting their other daughter.
Seth also proposed to Sarah this week! We knew something was up when he so heavily featured in the episode, and he hasn’t had a lot of screen time before. And he kept trying to talk to Mae about something important the entire episode. While we don’t really know Seth that well, we know he obviously makes Sarah happy. Especially after her reaction to his proposal and how fast she said “yes!” And we like Phoebe, too.
We love that Sarah is successful in both her professional and personal life. It shows that women can have it all without having to sacrifice one part of their life for the other. And we don’t get to see that very often on television.
Other Thoughts:

- We loved that Mae didn’t back down about her views on the death penalty. Hopefully, the show will revisit this story again before the season’s over.
- This family really comes together for one another, and we loved seeing them plan Edwin’s birthday party. This family loves celebrating, and what better reason than a birthday? Especially an 80th birthday!
Boston Blue airs Fridays at 10/9c on CBS.
I hate what they have done with Danny and Baez. They did not start dating on Blue Bloods. If they had, this would make sense. Instead they begin dating offscreen between Blue Bloods and Boston Blue; for what reason exactly? This is the kind of needless drama I don’t like. They should have never put them together unless either 1) Baez was going to move to Boston and become a recurring character or 2) Danny was going to do one season on Boston Blue in order to tie Blue Bloods and Boston Blue together. Sean doesn’t tie the shows together in the same way since he had a much smaller role on Blue Bloods and it is a different actor.
Overall, it was a good episode. I’m happy for Sarah and Seth!
As for the 3-way partnership with Lena, Baez and Danny – I’m very happy they didn’t write some weird jealousy thing between Lena and Baez. At the same time, Lena felt like a 3rd wheel. If they’re going to have Baez on more to work cases with Danny, maybe they should have Sarah working with them, since she is the superintendent, and have Lena working with the rookies, or Brian, or maybe going solo.
