There’s a new female-led action-adventure series coming to Prime Video later this summer. The streamer landed Ride or Die, created by Tessa Coates, in December 2023. Since then, Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer – a truly dynamic duo – have been set to star in and executive produce the show. There were some statements released when Prime Video picked up the series. There has been little movement about it until May 2026. It looks like that first look is only the beginning as the show gears up for a release in July.
“The process of developing this series has been one of the most joyous of our careers, starting with the inimitable Tessa Coates. Tessa’s voice and vision lured our incredible producers, Barbara and Andy Muschietti, who were instrumental in developing the project, as well as the dream casting of Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham. We are so proud to be making this show with Amazon; this team has created a series that will make audiences around the world laugh, cry, and cheer,” Matt Thunell, president, Skydance Television, said.

What Is Ride or Die About?
Prime Video has released an official synopsis, which reads as follows:
Ride or Die follows best friends Debbie Claybourne and Judith Burton, who thought they knew everything about each other, except Judith turns out to be an international assassin. When a mysterious figure emerges from Judith’s past and a hit goes horribly wrong, both of their worlds are turned upside down as they’re forced to go on the run together. It’s a race against time and a road trip across Europe, with law enforcement, highly trained assassins, and some very dangerous criminals at their heels.
“We were blown away by this one-of-a-kind comedy. Tessa’s pitch delivered it all—fantastically original characters, a great story, the amazing creative talents of Octavia and Hannah, and so much fun. We are over the moon to work with them all, plus the dream teams at Skydance, Double Dream, and Orit Entertainment,” Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, said in 2023.

Who Is Starring in the Show?
Octavia Spencer plays Debbie, while Hannah Waddingham plays Judith. Ride or Die stars Bill Nighy, Ed Skrein, Sylvia Hoeks, Calam Lynch, Savannah Steyn, Jamie Parker, and Jacky Ido. There aren’t any details about their characters yet. However, you can get a little bit about them from the few photos that Prime Video has shared.
“I was in as soon as I heard Tessa’s stunning pitch. To be able to dive into a role like Debbie is rare, and working with Hannah to bring this unique friendship to life is a dream. We knew we had something special with Skydance and Double Dream, and now that we have a home at Amazon, our vision has become a reality,” Octavia Spencer said about joining the show in December 2023.
Hannah Waddingham also shared a statement: “I’m not gonna lie, a few expletives fell out of my face at the prospect of working with the magnificent Ms. Spencer, Tessa Coates’ hugely energetic, exhilarating script, Skydance, and Double Dream. To then see the immediate excited response from a mighty beast like Amazon! It’s all just incredibly exciting, and I can’t wait to get our collective teeth into it!”
When Does Ride or Die Premiere?
In May 2026, Prime Video finally announced a premiere date. Ride or Die is set to debut with an eight-episode season on Wednesday, July 15. The news came after the show’s official announcement at Prime Video’s second annual Upfront Presentation last year. Executive producer Matt Miller is the showrunner of the action comedy, while executive producer Peyton Reed directs.
Ride or Die’s executive producers also include Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Irene Yeung for Double Dream; Brian Clisham; and Stephanie Kluft. It’s produced by Paramount Television Studios and Amazon MGM Studios. Andy and Barbara Muschietti’s Double Dream and Octavia Spencer’s Orit Entertainment also produce.

Is There a Trailer or Photos?
As of May 2026, there are only a few Ride or Die photos. One of which shows Hannah Waddingham in action as an international assassin. Another shows Judith and Debbie dressed up for a gala event, which is such a delightful trope in an assassin/spy project. Sylvia Hoeks’s character is giving off antagonist energy, which may mean that she’s playing the “mysterious figure” that Judith knows. It also looks like Savannah Steyn, Calam Lynch, and Billy Nighy could be playing characters that help Judith…or the mysterious figure…or neither. It’s hard to tell, but we’re in for the ride!
