Stephen King is one of the most well-known mystery and horror authors. With over 50 books published, he is one of the world’s most successful writers. His books have also been adapted for film and television several times. Over 55 of his books have been turned into either a film or a TV series. Carrie is one of his books that seems to be quite popular, considering the numerous times it has been adapted.
Now Prime Video has stepped in to fill that void with the upcoming adaptation from showrunner and writer Mike Flanagan. Best known for his work on The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor he’ll be following in the footsteps of other Carrie adaptations like the 1976 one starring Sissy Spacek and the 2013 one starring Chloë Grace Moretz. But this time we’re getting a series.
Flanagan’s take will see Summer H. Howell play Carrie White across eight episodes. And since we’ve explored this story over and over again, Flanagan is going to expand beyond the bullied girl with powers story we know. According to Entertainment Weekly, beginning with Episode 2, each episode will open with “a different, unique story of a different woman, somewhere else in the world and in time, coming to terms with their own abilities.”
The Synopsis
Misfit high‑schooler Carrie White (Summer Howell) has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.

The Cast
Summer Howell as Carrie White
Summer Howell will be taking on the lead role of the misfit, a high schooler and telekinetic Carrie White. She can be seen in 2013’s The Curse of Chucky, as well as Cult of Chucky. So it’s clear that she’s got some experience in the horror genre.
Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White
Samantha Sloyan, will portray Carrie’s mother, Margaret White. Her and Flanagan have worked together multiple times on shows like The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and The Midnight Club.
The late great Piper Laurie played the role in the 1976 film, delivering an iconic and chilling performance. We’re sure Sloyan is up to the challenge.
Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle
You already know how much we enjoy Matthew Lillard’s performances. He’s a horror icon as well, starring in films like Scream and Thir13en Ghosts. We honestly couldn’t think of a better person to cast in the role.
Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen
Alison Thornton will play the main mean girl in charge, Chris Hargensen. If you’re familiar with Carrie, then you know she was the absolute worst, and she made life difficult for Carrie. You can watch her in Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce or Dare Me.
Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin
Amber Midthunder, who we all know from Roswell, New Mexico, will play Miss Desjardin, Carrie’s gym teacher, who did her best to help Carrie feel less like an outsider, especially after the bullying incident.
Siena Agudong as Sue Snell
Siena Agudong (Sidelined: The QB and Me) will portray Sue Snell, the only one of the high school girls who was nice to Carrie and tried to make amends for being part of the mean girls’ group that bullied her. It will be interesting to see how the series portrays their relationship, as well as how it handles the fallout from Carrie’s actions. Given that Sue was one of the main witnesses to what took place. Will the series go the flashback route and showcase events that took place in the past and present? We could see this playing out with Sue telling the story to a police detective.
Arthur Conti as Billy
Arthur Conti, who starred as Jeremy alongside Jenna Ortega in Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice will play Chris’s boyfriend, Billy, whom she convinced to help her carry out her evil prank on Carrie. John Travolta originally played the role in the 1976 flick.
Joel Oulette as Tommy
Joel Oulette (Sullivan’s Crossing) will play Tommy, Sue’s boyfriend, whom she asked to take Carrie to the prom as a way to apologize for how she treated her.
Also starring in Carrie will be Thalia Dudek (The Remnant) as Emaline and Josie Totah (The Buccaneers) as Tina.
How Many Episodes Will ‘Carrie’ Be?
Carrie will be a total of eight episodes. It’s only going to be a limited series with no expected second season.
Release Date
The series is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video October 7th.
