The summer has a lot to offer television fans. But there’s no show that’s garnering our attention quite like Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, which with its blend of compelling characters and raw storytelling makes for one of the better shows this year.
We had the chance to screen the first four episodes of Cloak & Dagger, including the two-part premiere that airs June 7, and we were immediately struck by the characters that inhabit this world. It was clear that this isn’t a superhero show that is so focused on the superhero aspect that it loses the realism and heart that comes with its leading characters. Tyrone and Tandy defy stereotypes in their circumstances and manage to be the kind of characters that you could see yourself falling in love with.
Cloak & Dagger also touches on social issues that some shows either are afraid to tackle or don’t tackle in the right way, from sexual assault to substance abuse to police brutality. Cloak & Dagger looks to be one of those shows that is far more important than the comic book essence it originates from.
Remember the tragedy that was Marvel’s Inhumans? Cloak & Dagger is what that show should’ve been and will forever wish it could’ve been.
Trust us, Cloak & Dagger is a show you cannot miss and you’ll be thanking us after you fall in love, like we have.
