We’re counting down to the Season 5 premiere of The 100 with cast and creator interviews from Wondercon 2018 in Anaheim. Executive producer Jason Rothenberg gave us a little teaser about the prequel he’s been working on.
“The thing that I love most about this show, really is that the universe is so dense,” he said. “If you look along the timeline, to me anyway, there’s a lot of fascinating story to tell. And so I’ve chosen a time period that I think is interesting. It’s a totally new world.”
Rothenberg said that new world is set before the era of The 100. “In a way it’s a prequel but it’s sort of the ancestor.”
He said the prequel features ancestors of familiar characters. “The protagonist of the show is like Clarke’s great-great-great grandmother. And we’ll meet some other ancestral descendants, and of course we know Becca was alive back then, so maybe there will be some connective tissue in terms of familiar faces.”
Don’t look for the prequel to happen soon. Rothenberg says it’s a ways off still.
Season 5 of The 100 premieres Tuesday, April 24th at 9 p.m./8 p.m. Central on The CW.
