I thought Wynonna Earp‘s “When You Call My Name” had broke me. That it left me shattered, mourning, and cried all out over the death of Xavier Pamela Dolls. Then “Colder Weather” came in and said, “Hold my beer!”
We often forget about the aftermath, the tears that follow, the healing that will definitely start somewhere down the line but NOT TODAY! Wynonna, Waverly, Doc, Nicole, and Jeremy are the ones left behind. The ones grieving. The ones who still have to wake up and continue on fighting. And fight they do in “Colder Weather”! No matter how much it hurts and tears them apart to be one man down…
*gets tissues ready* Let’s dive in!
I Didn’t Order These FEELS. Take Them Back!
Grief takes many forms. Sometimes it transforms into drinking the night away, gun in hand, and sorrow in your heart because you can’t it. Sometimes it takes the form of brooding, anger, and shouted words. And sometimes it takes the form of pushing people away because you can’t fathom a life without the one that you’ve just lost.
Every single person on Wynonna Earp was grieving the loss of Xavier Dolls in their own way. And no matter how angry or sad they were they stuck together. The moments were that concept wavered they pulled each other back and just held on tighter. Because Xavier Dolls is gone. There’s no bringing him back. No magical spell. And it fucking sucks.
But they’re still there. They still have to fight. And in Dolls name they will continue to fight. They will continue to live. They will continue to love. And hopefully one day they’ll find those Black Badge assholes and make them pay for the horror they brought to his life with every experiment they did on him.
For now, let’s remember Dolls for what he was: fire lizard with a killer smile, a helpful & patient friend, the man who brought them together, and the one person we will never forget, no matter how many seasons come and go for Wynonna Earp.
Here For Wayhaught Supporting Each Other Any Day of The Week
The love between Waverly and Nicole is a thing of wonder, beauty, and awe. Things are falling apart, they are being pulled this way and that, but they keep pushing on together. Right now, Nicole is stumbling, tired and pained by Dolls death but also haunted by her past. And Waverly, who has always used Nicole as a rock, has to be the strong one. She has to be the rock.
I love how Wynonna Earp, the show in general, teaches you that grief and leaning against someone is not a bad thing. It’s a part of life and I wish more shows did this. No sitting in the dark, staring at your partner, wandering what they’d say if they knew the truth. And yes, secrets are kept on this show. It’s a show after all and drama is needed. But not between Wayhaught.
I pray that Wynonna Earp keeps developing this relationship in a healthy manner that inspires and connects with the queer couples that are watching. With the queer men and women who have never seen or thought there was a remote possibility of being comforted in such a way by the person they’re attracted to or in love with.
Here’s hoping that they (I’m talking about you, reader) realize they deserve that kind of love as much as these two women.
What Are You Waverly Earp? Also, Already Loving Contessa!
Let me start off by saying that Contessa is a straight up beast. And I don’t mean beast as in a negative term. I mean beast as in beautiful, entertaining, assertive, seductive, and tenacious woman. See, B.E.A.S.T.
She’s also the kind of levity that we desperately need in the middle of this grief train that we are riding because of Dolls death. Contessa actually made sure her hair looked good while trying to escape an Earp that she’d stolen from. Talk about ballsy. Woman has her priorities on right!
And then there’s Waverly. The interaction Contessa and her had was golden! Waverly didn’t back down one inch and somehow combined silly with pure adorable determination. I can’t wait until these two women meet again and go head to head. Especially because Contessa is a tarot reader and she has seen something scary about our youngest Earp.
The mystery of Waverly’s parentage and the introduction of Contessa leads me to believe that our Earp is something dangerous. Well SOMEONE dangerous. Papa Earp did make deals with scoundrels but it was to protect his kids. What if one of the scoundrels was someone close to Bulshar? What if she was taken in to give her a choice and a chance to grow up loved instead of turning into the darkness like her creators would want her to be.
Waverly’s too kind and pure for this world. Making her parentage super duper evil just makes sense.
Wynonna Earp airs Fridays at 9/8c on SyFy.
