It is now here! The first episode of Katy Keene has premiered. ‘Chapter One: Once Upon a Time in New York’ introduced the new Archie comic Riverdale world spinoff. It was a solid first episode, and so far has a great concept.
Join me as I review this week’s episode.
THE GOOD
I stopped watching Riverdale at the beginning of the third season. So, while this show is a spinoff, you don’t need to have watched Riverdale or read Archie Comics to get a handle of what’s going on. You might not get all the references, but that’s okay.
What I loved about this episode was that it was full of friendship and following your dreams. There was none of the angsty over the top drama that made me stop watching Riverdale. I hope we continue this trend as the season goes on.
Also, I loved the different dynamics involving music and fashion. It was refreshing. I would also like to add a big fuck you to Katy’s boss, the Cabot board and the broadway director who like to crush dreams. They won’t get our friend group down.
THE NOT SO BAD
The men. My god are they gorgeous. I hope we will be graced with even more of KO and Alex this season. I also wouldn’t object to any other hot men to fill my screen.
KO definitely has the upper hand this episode of being the supportive boyfriend and agreeing to stay in New York with Katy. Let’s see what Alex can do to redeem himself to Josie.
AND THE EVEN BETTER
Jorge was everything this episode. From the Broadway auditions to Ginger Lopez. He is my favorite character so far! Watching Ginger obliterate the Broadway director left me with so much satisfaction. She displayed a fierce confident queen. She knows she is good enough and isn’t taking anymore shit. All the way to Carnegie Hall bitches!
Overall, this was definitely once upon a time in New York. It was full of critisim, heartbreak, jealousy, friendship, fashion, music and broadway. But it’s also more than that. It inspired a theme of not giving up on your dreams and if you aren’t achieving them, to just go find another way. Don’t ever stop fighting for what you want.
I thoughly enjoyed myself and I can’t wait to see what the next episode brings. If you want more Katy Keene content before next week’s episode. Check out our article where Lucy Hale talks about living in New York for filming.
