So, if like me, you absolutely loved The Witcher we are in for a bit of a wait until the second season premiers in 2021. Which sucks. We don’t get to laugh at Jaskier or see Yennefer being a badass. There will be no more of Geralt’s hmms….or Ciri discovering her powers.
In the meantime, however, here are 8 shows you can watch if you loved The Witcher!
THE LEGEND OF THE SEEKER
The Legend of the Seeker is a show produced by Sam Raimi that ran for two seasons in 2008-2010 for first-run syndication (much like Hercules and Xena: Warrior Princess). Based on Terry Goodkind’s Sword of Truth fantasy series, the show tells the tale of Richard Cypher, who learns he has been prophesied to save the world. He travels with a Wizard named Zed and a Confessor named Kahlen (Bridget Regan). This show has some cheesy moments, but the UST between Richard and Kahlen is nice, and the series is set in a fun world to explore.

GAME OF THRONES
Honestly, if any of you are surprised that this appeared on my list, I don’t know what to say to you. Despite the shitty ending, Game of Thrones, is a heavy favorite of us here at Fangirlish. Game of Thrones comes from the brilliant mind of author G.R.R. Martin. Various families throughout Westeros vie for the Iron Throne while navigating complex alliances, being betrayed and losing everything you have ever known. You also get a mix of Night Kings, Dragons and Direwolves thrown in there for your enjoyment.
I have not met a lot of people that have seen or heard of Grimm, so let’s correct that. Grimm is about a detective named Nick Burkhardt who has recently found out he is a Grimm. Basically, a hunter of Wesen. The show follows Nick as he encounters Wesen and learns to navigate his new world while balancing his relationships with people who don’t know he is a Grimm. It is a fantastic show, one that I wholeheartedly recommend.
There are six complete seasons, streaming on Amazon Prime.
THE LAST KINGDOM
This is a show that has been on my list to watch and I have heard many great things about it. This is the official logline from Netflix: “As Alfred’s health weakens — and with it his dream of a united England — Uhtred must take command and confront a new threat, Danish warlord Sigrid.” Sounds good, doesn’t it?
You can watch the first three seasons of The Last Kingdom on Netflix.
I just started watching The Librarians, and so far it has been great. The show is about an ancient underground organization beneath the Metropolitan Public Library dedicated to fighting supernatural threats, solving mysteries and finding and preserving magical artifacts. Some of those artifacts include the Ark of the Covenant and Excalibur. Those dedicated members of the organization are referred to as Librarians.
The Librarians is streaming on Hulu.
Charmed is an oldie, but a goodie. This plays more into the fantasy and witch role that is Yennefer, also all badass witches. Charmed is about a trio of sister witches that have just discovered their powers and are learning to navigate their new life while fighting demons and warlocks.
You can stream all 8 seasons on Netflix. I’m warning you now, only watch the original. The CW’s remake is…not good.
Now we all know that Harry Potter is obviously a movie, but I couldn’t not put it on this list. It is a great series, and the books are even better. However, here is a summary of the plot for those of you that don’t know. Harry Potter follows Harry and his friends at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. As he discovers who he is as a wizard, he encounters the truth of his parents death at the hands of Lord Voldemort and often fights for his life while trying to prevent him from coming back into power. The magical world that J.K. Rowling created means a lot to many people, me included, I always love rediscovering it. I however, don’t count the mess that is Cursed Child.
LORD OF THE RINGS
Lord of the Rings is another great fantasy series by J.R.R.Tolkien that was turned into a movie franchise. It follows Hobbits, Elves, a Dwarf, a Wizard and a Man as they seek to destroy the most powerful ring in Middle Earth and destroy Sauron. There are three different movies, and I highly suggest watching the extended editions because they are the best. Also, if you are a fan of the series or books, Amazon Studios is working on a Television Series about it.
Those are just some of the shows/movies that we suggest if you loved The Witcher. Are there any shows that you would add to our list? Leave your suggestions in the comments below! While you’re here, check out our Lifestyle Lift article about Jaskier!
