There are some networks that are so egregious in cancelling things before their time that I’m wary to take a chance on new shows on the network; ABC is one of those. I’ve already mourned the loss of Whiskey Cavalier, but still to come on Gone Too Soon are: Deception, Still Star-Crossed, Agent Carter, The River, Forever, Selfie, and those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Take Two is another show on this list.
While I’m on the subject ABC’s less than stellar track record. I hope that The Baker and the Beauty is not going to be added to this list. Part of me is reluctant to get attached, because I’m extremely worried that it will get cancelled. That hasn’t stopped me from watching it, but I won’t say that it’s not a concern of mine. I don’t want this show to end up in the long list of other shows that have been canceled by ABC, so please go watch The Baker and the Beauty I think it has the potential to fill the CW romance (Hart of Dixie, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and Jane the Virgin) position in my heart.
Unfortunately Take Two is on the list of shows that were canceled before ABC before their time. Another one season wonder like Deadly Class, Take Two ran for 13 episodes the summer of 2018, it was the perfect summer show, fun, airy, with a little romance thrown in.
Take Two was an update on the Castle formula, which makes sense, the shows were created by the same people. Take Two centers on Sam Swift (Rachel Bilson, The O.C. and Hart of Dixie) an actress who used to star in a cop show and is just getting out of rehab. She begins to shadow Eddie Valetik (Eddie Cibrian, CSI: Miami) a private investigator and former L.A.P.D. Detective to try and land a role as a PI in a film. After getting a taste for the job she decides to stay and become Eddie’s partner.
The show does have an overarching mystery. Not only is there a case of the week, but clues are being dropped that point to solving the main problem.
Should You Watch It
Did you like Castle, but wish that Beckett and Castle would have gotten together a whole lot faster? If so, then boy do I have the show for you. This show only lasted for 13 episodes and they have hooked up by the end of the season. No slow burn drag out here!
The show is also the kind of fun that you want in a summer show. You get a mystery and romance and crime solving. Honestly this show is just fun and why aren’t there more shows that are just fun. They don’t need to be groundbreaking. If you like Whiskey Cavalier then you will like this show.
Stand Out Moment
Nothing really comes to mind, but I’ve loved Rachel Bilson since The O.C. so I am so happy anytime that she is on the screen. If you too are a fan hers then you should check the show out just for that.
Come on I have already said that this show was like Castle, so of course the main ship is Sam and Eddie. They are really cute together, or maybe it’s a little Zoe and Wade transference (they are one of my favorite ships ever), but I really liked Sam and Eddie. They work well together, but are very different from one another. Sounds like a recipe for a good ship to me.
On a scale from Daybreak to Stitchers this show ranks around Eye Candy. Sure the show ends on a cliffhanger (Eddie is arrested after being framed for murder), but you know that the show would have worked out this plot fairly quickly and with little angst or drama. It just isn’t that type of show.
Would I have liked to see the actual villain in jail? Yes. Do I wish there were more answers? Of course, but it doesn’t take away my enjoyment of the show.
Where to Watch
Unlike Whiskey Cavalier, another show that only lasted for one season on ABC you can actually stream Take Two. I mean you have to pay for it, but it is totally available which is a definite improvement. You can find the show on Amazon Prime and YouTube.
My question is why can you find this show on the internet, but not Whiskey Cavalier. It really doesn’t make sense to me. Make it make sense.
