The Chick Fight premiere is almost here! This movie is everything we wanted to see and more, and it’s time we started to tell why. It’s a film that mixes the best of fight club with the teaching of finding our own strength. We had the opportunity to speak with its leading lady and producer, the talented Malin Akerman, in an exclusive interview about this movie and a ton of other cool stuff. Put on your pads and let’s hit like a girl!
Here we go!
To get you started, here’s the trailer and the synopsis.
When Anna Wyncomb is introduced to an underground, all-female fight club in order to turn the mess of her life around, she discovers she is much more personally connected to the history of the club than she could ever imagine.
And now our exclusive interview with Malin.
The movie is about sisterhood. It’s one of the great lessons that this movie leaves us. So we wanted to delve into this concept and asked Malin if she thought that women could sometimes be our own worst enemies or if she thought we needed a bit of healthy competition to find our best version. This was her reply and we have to say that we totally agree with her.
“Yes, I mean, you’re totally right, the movie is about sisterhood and I think that a lot of times women can be portrayed in films as jealous of each other, cheaty and many other things but, when we comes together, there’s no more power than that and I think that fight club gives women a chance to express their emotions and to feel like they can go out into the world and fight whatever comes their way. I think yes, we all need a balance but, at the end of the day, we need more women supporting women”.
Another lesson this movie leaves us is about finding ourselves and being who we want to be. Anna, Malin’s character, finds her strength and her own voice throughout the film. We wondered if shooting this movie had taught Malin any valuable lessons for her daily life. Thanks to her response, we know that she’s a strong woman who has very clear ideas about what really matters in life.
“Yeah, there’re some things that come to my mind. How important support is, how important my friends are to me, I knew that many years back at me. You know, I’ve had this wonderful group of women who have been such a huge support in my life. And I don’t know what I would have done without them. But you know, there’s also value in the fact that look at her, and Anna beginning of the film is really down on her luck. And I think we’ve all been there being life ebbs and flows and goes up and down as we go through it and when you are down at the bottom just know that you’ve got this, you can fight, we can get out there and you can come back up from where you’re at. So there’s some nice messages in it for sure that I was taken with me”.
We also wanted to ask Malin what her favorite scene or moment in the movie was. To be honest, we have a hard time choosing one because there are too many that we loved and we wanted to know if she had the same problems as us, and she cleared all our doubts.
“Oh goodness. There’s so many, I love all the fights, they’re so badass, they’re so awesome. But I have to say that, I love Alec Baldwin, when he’s training me, I think that scene with the coconut is very funny, I worked very hard training for that. I think there’re a lot of good things to just pick one but that scene of women fighting in the ring is my favorite shoot”.

The movie is not a romantic comedy and that is part of what makes it so special and so cool and different, but we can’t live without shipping! And you will understand why as soon as you see the movie. In the middle of her journey, Anna meets a wonderful man, Dr. Roy, and we wanted to confirm if Malin agreed that they have a future as a couple beyond what we see in the movie.
“Yeah. I think they are very cute together and they enjoy the same things, both saved each other, they have fun together and I think he’s a lovely person and a lovely character so yes, I like to think that they continue together as a stable couple“.

At the end of the movie, two great friends, who are more like sisters, face each other in the ring for the first time and we had to know who won that fight. Malin gave us her opinion on this.
“That’s dificult. I think Anna got shit by Charleen and Charleen would win but Anna was cracking out make out right. It would be after two rounds Charleen would win and Anna need to escape but I think Charleen has a powerful punch that’s for sure“.
Throughout the movie, Anna, Malin’s character, has to deal with very tough emotional setbacks and we asked Malin about this. We wanted to know what was the hardest scene emotionally for her. This was her reply.
“My most emotional scene would be that moment where Anna has it, after her hard work, she has enough and is on the beach, with the character of Alec Baldwin, there, she lost all her faith in herself and thinks it was all a joke and I think that this is a very hard time for her, a turning point in her life where she thinks she can’t do that and feels lost. Yes, that would be the moment”.

The movie has a lot of really spectacular action and fight scenes and so we had to question if Malin had done all of her stunts, just because oh my god! They are so impressive that our jaws dropped.
“Yes, we did a lot of fighting but we had some amazing stunt doubles so that fight scene between Bella Thorne and me at the end, we did most of the fight stuff, we shot most of it but there were some things that I couldn’t do, like for example, when I fall on my back, and that did by my stunt double so it was a team effort with her. She really did so many cool things like the punches really hit all that kind of stuff. But yeah, it was a combination, but we did we did learn the whole fight thing for sure”.
And that was our talk with the wonderful Malin Akerman. You have to know that she’s the cutest, we laughed a lot together and we had a really good time. She’s the best, we promise. And we can’t wait for you to see her amazing new movie because we know you’re going to love it.
