We still can’t get over White Lie! After our interview with Amber Anderson, now we bring you an interview with Kacey Rohl, the leading lady, where she tells us about her experience playing Katie, her opinion about lies and…some Arrow secrets!
Here we go!
Before we dive into the interview, let’s recall the incredible trailer for this emotional and courageous story.
Now, let’s get to our interview with Kacey Rohl! And we assure you that you will love it.
As you know, Katie lies about having cancer and this is … extremely complex, to put it mildly. And this movie is so well done that it leaves you wondering if Katie is a good person who makes a big mistake … or a bad person. We asked Kacey for her opinion on this and her response is totally worth it. It is a huge reflection on human complexity and the darkness that we all have.
I think … it’s really a complicated thing when you slap people into categories of good and bad … I think we are all capable of doing very well and very badly or at least I may be naive but I like to think we’re all capable of doing something good. So I think I understand what everyone means when they take her as a bad person. I think some of the decisions she makes are really not good, really hurtful, really unpleasant, really twisted, but I don’t know if I would define her as a bad person. That is so difficult … but in a yes or no question I would say no because I love her so much, it was a bit my job to love her.

Kacey’s character, Katie, has many emotional scenes throughout the film, precisely due to her emotional complexity. This was a challenge for Kacey and we wanted to know what was the most emotional scene for her. The scene that stirred her the most. And this is what she answered us. And if we already admired her, now we do even more.
I think there are a couple of scenes that were the most emotional. The first is when Katie goes to her father for help and he just doesn’t believe her. I think yeah, it’s funny because she’s very clearly lying but it’s that feeling of when we’re trying so desperately to be believed, to have support. So with hers, she’s lying to her father , but he is there looking at her without believing in her, that’s really catastrophic.
And then I think the second thing that comes to mind is with that moment with her girlfriend at the end of the movie, trying to explain in a really indirect way what she can of what has been going on and what she will do to correct her mistakes and I think that scene, along with their discussion the night before and then on the radio station at the hospital right at the end, those moments are really emotionally charged.

As you know, at the end of the movie, Jennifer, the love of Katie’s life, leaves. We wanted to know how Kacey thought her character, Katie, would react when she realized that Jennifer was gone … and that she might not come back and that would be the end. And her response will surprise you, you have to read it.
Well, it’s … you think she’s not coming back. I think the issue remains open in that regard. But you know, we know that Katie is a superior manipulator. So, you know, I think there is a possibility that she can pull her up to a certain extent, but I think that’s a pretty strong message for Katie as well as all people to be left behind.
That’s pretty harsh … I don’t know if she would accept it. I think she’d be like, well that’s it, I can’t, I can’t do that. I have to do everything I can so that doesn’t happen the way I’ve been doing it, you know.
Kacey Rohl
We met Kacey on Arrow as Alena and we absolutely loved her back then! So we took the opportunity and asked her what is her best memory and her best experience with the cast and crew. And her response is so adorable, really, she smiles from ear to ear, remembering … and you can tell that Arrow marked her career and guess who Kacey has the funniest experience of hers with? Exactly! It couldn’t be other than Emily.
OMG! So many moments … I just have to say like when I became a part of that show for the relatively short time that I did, they were so good together, they were such a close-knit group. They were, you know, a family and I had known them before like in the city and working but then I got there to work on the show and I was so welcome in that, in that crew and that happen without even thinking twice.
It was like hi, welcome to the family! I was like, oh god, great. They were like you’re part of the gang and I was like, oh, oh, oh my God. Thank you. But yes, they were like truly wonderful people who were not only very kind but aware of what was going on in the world, their positions and as, you know, being their own kind of superheroes and using that platform for good and so committed to their work. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about everyone who is there and they could be the nicest and friendliest team I’ve ever worked with.
My best memory … wait. Let me think here. I think is when I showed up for work and Emily and I had the same scene and we got old. That was pretty funny. We were like here we are in the future or this is how we’ll see each other, here we go.
Kacey Rohl
We imagined that, for Kacey, it must not have been easy to put herself in Katie’s shoes. This character is an emotional and even moral challenge. So we wanted to know what this experience was like for her. This is what she told us:
Yes, but I like it… what I like the most is the difficulty. I like to try to love each character and understand it. That’s why I do my job and I like to find out why people do what they do and sometimes it’s very clear and easy and, you know, with Katie, obviously it’s like, how does anyone get to this? How? How is her able to do it? Why? How do they get to a space where this is and it becomes acceptable? It’s a big thing to do to themselves and everyone in their lives, so I really had to do some research to find out where she came from and what she was trying to do, what she was trying to get, what she needed. Which ultimately I think it was just love. I think she may try to get it in the wrong place or in the wrong way. But I think that’s what was driving her to lie, to get a kind of attention and love and sometimes things get tangled up, right?
Kacey Rohl
We really want to follow Kacey on every project she does, so the next question was clear to us. We wanted to know what her next project would be.
I’m preparing for something that I’m not entirely sure I can talk about. It hasn’t really been released to the world, but I’m very excited about it. It’s another gigantic challenge, I seem to love taking on these things that are just plain crazy, but they excite me. So yeah, I’m excited. I’m sorry I can’t give you more.
Kacey Rohl
We can’t wait to see all the projects that await her in her career! She really deserves it. She is talented, kind and honest. She greeted us with a smile and we felt like she opened the doors to her heart. And that is not easy. She shared her experience in a passionate and fun way. You can tell that she loves her work and puts all of her into every role she plays.
As we discussed in the interview with Amber Anderson, we always want the interview to be more of a conversation between two friends over a glass of wine, just chatting and catching up. It’s not always as easy as it was with Amber and Kacey.
Kacey only spoke to us as old friends reuniting, she told us about her entire experience and even asked us if we wanted to know anything else. Our talk ended as it began, full of laughter and smiles. A wonderful experience that we cannot wait to repeat.
